Folic acid as part of multivitamin vs. independently

I've got a folate deficiency (no idea why, I eat masses of greens) and have been prescribed 400mg a day. I'd been taking those and noticed less tiredness etc. although of course that could have been a psychological effect.

Anyway, I picked up a multivitamin spray at the weekend with the same dose of folic acid in it because I'm dieting and I think I'm not eating enough to possibly be able to take in enough vitamins and minerals.

Now I'm wondering if there is any disadvantage to taking the folic acid as a apart of a multivitamin? For some reason I've got doubts about it, I have an unscientific gut feeling that the folic acid on its own might be more effective somehow. Is there any truth to this notion? Thanks for any advice.
