Pharmacy only dispensed part of my prescription

Hi are there any UK retail pharmacists who can advise on the best way for me to get my drugs please? I am prescribed 2 months worth of Fultium D3 which is 4 boxes. The chemist only had one box so gave me that but it has been 3 weeks and they have still not got any stock. I'm not sure what to do so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The staff in my pharmacy told me to tell the doctors I had only had part of the order so they could issue another prescription and then I had to try a different pharmacy. Often independent ones will be able to get stock as they use different suppliers.

Ah ok I will try that. Thanks.

Is that just vitamin D3? I'd just buy it over the counter, there are lots of different brand names and some are pretty cheap, might even be cheaper than the prescription.

My pharmacy gives me a copy of the prescription to try and get the balance of the order elsewhere. I then ring round the local pharmacies to check if they have stock.

I usually ask the pharmacy first if they have everything before handing over my prescription.

Once they part-fill a prescription you are stuck until they get the medicine in again. I suppose you could start ringing them to get them to hurry up.

The only other solution is as suggested, get a new prescription.

Its just vitamin D3, I buy a year's supply off Amazon for £13

I'm not sure how exactly you manage this, you need to get the entirety of a prescription in the same pharmacy. The pharmacy needs to submit the original prescription for payment of items dispensed. A copy is not a legal prescription and another pharmacy could not dispense it.

You will need a new prescription OP. Explain to the surgery what has happened and they should be able to issue you with a prescription for the outstanding amount.

Thanks everyone - much appreciated. Yes it’s only vitamin D but a) I don’t pay for prescriptions and b) you can’t buy the dose I have over the counter.
