THYROID PROBLEM. General surgery scare

Hi everyone. Long story short I have large thyroid goitre and 2 small thyroid nodules. They wasn't worried at a scan over a year ago and decided to keep an eye. Fast forward to today I've had another blood test and scan recently as a follow up after pregnancy and giving birth.
They've sent me a letter to see the lady I always see but next to her name it says & CONSULTANT AND GENERAL SURGERY.
I'm a mess waiting and the anxiety is crippling. Does this mean I'm going to need surgery or a biopsy? Normally I only see the lady dealing with me 🥺🥺

thats just her name job and what she does so I wouldn’t be too worried on the basis of that. Likely just new headed paper with her credentials on?

I would try to see it as any of your other appointments. You MAY need biopsies or surgery but until they tell you that try not to think about it. You may not they might keep an eye on them for longer. My sister had thyroid cancer so I know it’s scary but it’s good you’re being looked after and monitored. Is the appointment long away? Hope you can settle your anxiety op must be scary for you I hope it comes round soon so you can have answers to your questions

surely it just means that the person you’re seeing is a surgeon?

pinkmarshmalloww · 09/07/2023 11:39

I'm not sure. I went back to my old letter from a year ago and it just says her name with consultant next to it and doesn't have general surgery on there. Appointment is Tuesday so not a long wait. But I suffer from general anxiety and I'm going out of my mind.

Also I had the thyroid function blood test about 4 weeks ago. Surely they wouldn't have left me this long if there was a problem found? I was told to wait for the appointment before I hear about any results

But if it’s the same person you’re seeing it doesn’t matter does it?

I know it's the same person I'm seeing. But I was querying whether her adding general surgery and consultant after her name meant I'm also seeing other people to prep me for possible surgery. As she's never including general surgery in previous letters.

Maybe she's changed job roles within the hospital since your last appointment but still wants to see you?

I really hope so. It's hard not to overthink when you're in the middle of a possible cancer scare. All rational thinking goes out the window 😥

Oh I know, I've been there Flowers

How long do you have to wait for the appointment?

pinkmarshmalloww · 09/07/2023 13:07

Sorry to hear that @ChrisPPancake 😢 I've only got to wait till Tuesday. I'm just praying they'll say there's no concerns and will keep an eye on it like they did last year. The larger lump they weren't worried about has grown though 😢
The 2 smaller lumps that concerned them more I can't feel so can't tell if they've changed x
