Attached is a photo of a weird spot on the back of my elderly friend’s hand. She thought it was a liver spot, but says it has started hurting in the last few days. I think she should get it checked out by the GP as possible skin cancer. I’d be grateful for any views.

It looks like an injury. Did she scrape it?

It looks more like a scab to me. The important bit of missing information is the history. How long has it looked like this, how did it start, was an injury etc.

It could potentially be a basal cell sarcoma which are usually easily treated. It would be worth a look by a gp.

She says no injury - it was just a liver spot that started to bleed. It does hurt a bit, she says.

She should get it checked out as she's older by the looks of her hand and it could be something or nothing but actually medical assessment is what is needed.
