Is this the menopause

Copied from my post in the "menopause" thread as I'm impatient...

I apologise in advance for the subject matter!

And I'm not pregnant, I've had a negative test (and it'd be the Immaculate Conception )

The last period I remember having was in very early March. Since then I've had period pains on and off and some of the usually mood swings but no actual period.

What is happening, however, is a feeling like I'm wetting myself but it's not urine, it's a very very watery usually clear liquid that sometimes has a slight rustiness to indicating it could be period related. It doesn't really have much of an odour. It's unlike any discharge I've had before as it just runs out like water. I've had to literally just change my trousers as it looked like id wet myself. But this is the first time its happened in about a week.
I'm now wearing period pants and wear panty liners each day.

So is this what the end of my periods will look like? Something else? What's going on??

Do you understand what menopause is?

It's when you are over 50 and haven't had a period for twelve entire months, and for under 50s, 24 whole months.

So no, this isn't menopause.

As for the end of your periods, no one answer.

How old are you OP?

Periods becoming irregular might be a sign of peri-menopause (as your hormones start to change, you have less oestrogen etc).

I haven't heard of the watery discharge as a common symptom - but others may be along having had similar. It might be worth a chat with a nurse....

Yes of course I understand what the menopause is and should have said "is this the start of the menopause?" but I hope you feel better for being so snarky!

@GoodOnPaper I'm 49. My mum's menopause was completely done and dusted by this age.

Perimenopause is what proceeds menopause... Also, periods are just one single part of it all, and not everyone's periods go awry, so not an accurate indictor at all.

And no, no snark here at all.

Thanks @GoodOnPaper. I'll make an appointment with the practice nurse anyway I think. I really don't want to spend the next few years feeling like I've wet myself regularly, it's not very nice at all!

I have had this watery discharge too I assumed it was a weak bladder at the time but it wasn't urine - but that was put to the back of my mind because I had it along with bleeding between periods and so I headed to the GP and have had a full check-up - nothing noticeably 'wrong' but very likely to be perimenopause for me.

So yes your discharge could be hormone related to peri or menopause (maybe you've sailed through it:)) Best to get checked out either way. Hope all goes well. xx
