Is anyone else having the worst D&V of their life?

Trigger warning - this is rank.

I'm on hour 26 now of the most intense D&V I've ever had in my life. I have now learnt to be sick in a bowl and sit on the toilet at the same time because at the start every time I was sick in the loo I would unwillingly shit myself on the bathroom floor with no warning. I've never felt like I don't have control of my bowels before but I am barely making it to the toilet most times and am having to have one of my baby's nappies ripped open in my underwear to catch the times where I'm not. The vomiting is atleast twice an hour, stomach bile and water at this point. In my 3 decades on the planet and I've never had anything like this. No idea where it's come from. Wondering if I'm alone or if there's something going around?!

I had similar week before last, i had to have the whole week off work and I'm still feeling queasy nearly two weeks after it started. I assumed food poisoning...

UncleRadley · 01/07/2023 11:50

The vomiting stopped on day two but it was every hour without fail for a whole day.

eandz13 · 01/07/2023 11:55

Noro? Telltale sign of it is a churning, uncomfortable knot just below your sternum.

I've had some banging D&V bugs, none of them lasted longer than 2 days, you'll be on the mend soon!

Something I have learned is vimto and fruit pastels make your sick taste a little better, if you're in want of tasting something nicer than stomach acid.

holycrapbag · 01/07/2023 12:05

My stomach is churning like I've never heard before. Doesn't noro last like a week. I've been praying it's a 48 hour thing 😭

Noro is a pretty fleeting bug, usually lasts 24-48 hours, you can feel shite for a while afterwards too (tired and achy etc) but the sickness and shits usually stop pretty quickly.
I've had it a few times (4 kids that bring all sorts home) and once it eventually stops... it stops. I feel suddenly a million percent better, just tired and starving!

holycrapbag · 01/07/2023 12:15

Oh I hope so, thanks. I can't sleep because I need the loo/to vomit so frequently. My baby seems to want to do nothing but breastfeed, which is great when I'm red hot and nauseous and don't want to be touched, and the screams every time I unlatch them to go and do what I gotta do, which is regularly. I feel like this is actual hell!

That sounds horrendous! I hope you're over it really soon x

MissGroves · 01/07/2023 12:27

I have had D but no V for two weeks now - I was ready for taking a trip to the drs but nothing today other than the urge to go to the loo. Hoping that is the end as it was awful - up to 10 times a day on a bad day 😭

GG1986 · 01/07/2023 12:38

I had noro for 2 weeks once! Ended up going to a&e as had bleeding and mucus. I had it again in Feb this year and luckily only lasted 2 days.

LakeFlyPie · 01/07/2023 12:59

You poor thing, that sounds horrendous.
If you can get some rehydration salts e.g. dioralyte and have just a few teaspoons at a time. It's absorbed pretty quickly and the electrolytes should help to make you feel slightly less ghastly.
Hope you're feeling better v soon

mrsbyers · 01/07/2023 13:01

Make sure you’re rehydrating properly with electrolytes and not just water

TrueScrumptious · 01/07/2023 13:01

That sounds awful. I’ve never had D&V.

JustDanceAddict · 01/07/2023 16:07

I had that as a teen - I still remember puking and shitting simultaneously and fainting too. It was back in the days a GP would come out and is was gastroenteritis - I was off school for a week. Agree re sips of diaralyte - when DCs have had bugs Dr says even if it’s thrown up your body absorbs a bit

Oh no, really!? DH had this for about a week a few weeks ago. DC and I currently going through it at the moment and it's awful. I stopped counting at 15 and it's still the same today. Did you have a really bad cramp in your left side too?

WellThatWasInteresting · 01/07/2023 23:59

Just wanted to send my sympathies. It sounds awful enough without having a breastfed baby stuck to you as well, nothing worse when feeling nauseous!

This takes me back to when I had awful diarrhea the day after my C-section with a BF newborn. I could barely move without being in agony, let alone rush to the loo every fucking 30 minutes all through the night when I already hadn't slept for 3 days. It feels unsurmountable at the time, but you will do it!

These bugs are self limiting by nature, I'm pretty sure you are nearing the end and are soon going to feel amazing.

Good luck!

Nat6999 · 02/07/2023 00:41

After having Norovirus I insisted that any bathroom I had installed had the toilet & sink at a suitable distance that I could sit on the toilet & throw up in the sink at the same time. It's also the reason I have a bucket type bathroom bin. My only tip is don't drink plain water, it just bounces, drink weak squash with sugar or rehydration drinks, if you don't like the taste, put it in the fridge & use a straw.

TwoScottieDogs · 02/07/2023 08:50

How are you doing?
I am on hour 12 of d&v. Started feeling all hot and nauseous at the end of a meal out. Walked back home and vomited within metres of the front door. Unfortunately I also shat myself. Have had little sleep. Envy

TrueScrumptious · 01/07/2023 13:01

That sounds awful. I’ve never had D&V.

Do you have kids? I hadn't had it since I was about 8, until I and my first and they went to nursery. Had it about ten times since then. Hoping at some point will become immune again!

YouOk · 02/07/2023 18:18

This is why I have one of those old fashioned ice cream tubs - it lives in the airing cupboard holding the cleaning products until it's called into action

Jayd291 · 01/10/2023 17:18

Diarrhoea is a covid symptom, and there's an awful lot of covid around right now
