he hasn't been well for about 2 weeks. first he had a chest infection, plus cough, plus vomiting. the chest infection's gone but he's still vomiting, he can't seem to keep anything down. tonight, he vomited at about half 5, and his lunch and tea came up. he's just vomited again, which was his evening milk.

he's hardly got any fat left on him, i can see his ribs and spine. the gp won't entertain the idea that there's something wrong with his tummy.

is there anyone out there who can help me? i'm so worried.

oh no! poor little UD.

I'd take him to A&E don't bother waiting for the call back.

xxxx

ladytophamhatt · 23/02/2008 21:10

Don't let them fob you off with Dhyrolyte (sp) UD, I don't knowe a single child who has ever drank that stuff and liked it.

bucksmum · 23/02/2008 21:11

Harmoni at Amersham is good they will give him a good assessment, its on the same road as the underground station.

If you are worried at all in the night take him straight to Stoke Mandeville.

I've emailed you my telephone numbers if you are worried in the night call me anytime.

theUrbanDryad · 23/02/2008 21:15

aww i am all weepy now - bucksmum thank you so much

thanks so much everyone.

No probs, sorry I haven't been in touch much the past couple of weeks I had just emailed you to explain before I read your post!

AitchTwoOh · 23/02/2008 21:24

oh dear UD, it's rough when they're lean to begin with, isn't it? my friend's wee boy, when he gets sick the weight just drops off him. i hope they're good to you at the hospital.

mammyofET · 23/02/2008 21:29

Oh your poor DS. We had this with DS when he was 13 months old. Vomiting for 10 days solid. When he stopped taking water I rang NHS direct, GP called me and we ended up in hospital We managed to rehydrate him gradually - and he was only slightly dehydrated. Having had this experience I would take him to A&E to get him checked over. They told us that the threshold for his age is low and that they would always sooner check and observe.

Good luck with going to hospital.

mammyofET · 23/02/2008 21:31

Meant to say he stopped taking water in day 2 of sickness (we didn't wait 10 days IYKWIM).

LyraSilvertongue · 23/02/2008 21:31

Stuff the GP, take him to A&E if you're really worried. They'll give him a thorough check-over.
GPs often get things wrong IME.

LyraSilvertongue · 23/02/2008 21:35

Must read thread before posting.
Hope he's ok UD.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 23/02/2008 21:51

I nannied for a child who drank an 8oz bottle of diarolyte, several times in one day. the GP was most surprised!

DrNortherner · 23/02/2008 21:55

Hope he's OK UD.
xx

pigsinmud · 24/02/2008 07:47

My ds2 loved diarolyte. Had it when he was about 10 months old after serious bout of d & v. I was stunned as it was a struggle to get him to drink anything but milk even when he was well!

Hope he's ok UD.

Is there any history of asthma in the family? Dd2 and ds had theirs triggered by nasty chest infections as toddlers. asthma in children The coughing was made worse by changes in temperature and physical exertion. Also very bad at night and made it impossible for him to sleep. Worth mentioning it to the doctor you do eventually see.

Flllightattendant · 24/02/2008 08:26

How is he this morning? Thinking of you xx

theUrbanDryad · 24/02/2008 09:42

hi everyone, we went to see the doctor this morning, and he said that he probably had bronchialitis, which is different from bronchitis, apparently. he said it was unlikely that he had ever had a chest infection so the anti-b's were totally pointless. great. the doc basically said ds would get better "sooner or later". he wasn't dehydrated, but then he isn't usually in the morning, it's the evening he's sick and unwell in

i'm not overly happy, but not sure what else to do.

ladytophamhatt · 24/02/2008 09:46

if he starts being sick again i'd take him to a&e.

poor litte thing.

can't believe the "sooner or later" thing, how reassuring...not!!

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 09:49

we were recommended putting our baby in a steamy bathroom (all hot taps/shower running) for bronchialitis. Helps to clear lungs.

Have you tried rehydration powders. My 12 months old has just got over stomach bug and we were told ot give them.

Also my eldest was sick every time he coughed and still is at 5. He had mild reflux as a baby and was sick a lot.

ladytophamhatt · 24/02/2008 09:55

MY doc recommend the opposite fro chesty coughs etc. NO steam but out in the cold, dry fresh air and IME it does work. ds3 and 4 stop coughing as soon as we laeve the house.

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 09:58

but I think bronchialitis is different from just a chesty cough. If its really bad they do some sort of steam treatment in hospitals

Hi urbandryad. My ds was ill last year, different symptoms- high temp and very bad tummy ache. Over 3 days I had him at the gps once the out of hours emergency doc 3 times and took him to a and e. All said it was virus and sent him home treating me like a paranoid mother. The problem was every time he was seen he seem to pick up abit. But I knew some thing wasnt right. When the pains started again I was really unsure what to do but we went back to emergency docs again who still couldnt find anything wrong but said 'as you keep coming back we might as well get the childrens ward to look at him'. the cw was brilliant and straight away picked how poorly he was and found he had pnuemonia and kept him in for a week.
If you are still not happy and he gets bad again just keep taking him back till they listen to you, mums know best and if you know this is not right for your son then keep going back. Hope he is feeling better

JodieG1 · 24/02/2008 10:01

Just seen this. Poor Z UD If you feel something is wrong then go with your instincts and take him to a&e. Round here a woman saw the out of hours drs 3 times over the christmas holidays but baby was still not right, they said nothing was wrong but ended up to be meningitis. Normal gp caught it thankfully and called ambulence for them.

Just saying they're not always right. Hope he's ok and if you are worried, which you seem to be a lot, then just take him.

theUrbanDryad · 24/02/2008 14:19

just put him down for nap, he slept for all of 10 minutes then dh went upstairs to find him fountaining puke everywhere. the poor little mite is so tired, he doesn't know what to do with himself! i think this is more than bronchialitis...

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 24/02/2008 14:23

Take him back.
