Upper back spasm

I have been having back spasms for a week. It started following six hours in the car but overall I think my sitting down job has contributed to this plus my weight gain and lack of proper exercise other than walking.

I have started ibuprofen today and have booked a physio assessment on Saturday. I am off work today just to try and rest it as desk work has caused it three times this week.
When it happens I am literally incapacitated until it goes off. (It lasts for around an hour) It is definitely the most pain I have ever felt.
Can anyone give me any tips (or sympathy) please.

sorry you’re in this pain. It’s miserable. Make sure you get a workstation assessment at work. Possibly get a recommendation for an osteopath.

@Wildspace thank you. I will definitely get a work place assessment. I saw a physio yesterday and she said my left side back is very tight. I had a deep tissue massage which was painful and I still feel bruised today. Going back on Weds. It is still trying to spasm but hopefully I can get on top of it. I am very inactive at work and then at home my hobbies are generally sitting down ones. I need to start doing some form of exercise but no clue what.
