Worried sick! Atrial Fibrillation elderly uncle

Hello,
I'm very close to my uncle, he's more like a father to me. He's 79 and has been told by his GP that he has Atrial Fibrillation after an ECG last Friday at the doctors surgery. He's been given blood thinning medication and beta blockers he said. He's physically active and eats healthily. I'm worried sick but I am not telling him that.
The only symptoms he had was being a bit breathless in the morning and coughing a bit of phlegm up but apart from that, nothing. This issue was only flagged up from a pre-op check for his knee surgery which he's due to undergo. They mentioned to him that they thought he had AFib and that he should see his GP who has now confirmed it. I'm petrified, does anyone have any experience of this? Thank you

And the op is done by threading the tiny zapper through a blood vessel - no open heart stuff with big scars etc.!

I had a heart attack last year, I'm very fit, not overweight, never smoked (yes, a veritable paragon of virtue!) . Eventually I was diagnosed with AFib. It's now under control with beta blockers, aspirin and a careful diet and exercise regime. I have a Fenix watch to monitor heart rate, and a Kardi monitor in case of afib episodes. But tbh I am fine, I have to watch my diet and stress levels, and have to be aware of the impact of any aFib episodes. But now your uncle has been diagnosed he will be fine. Check out the British Heart foundation Web site, there's loads of information on there, really excellent stuff.

Hello, I'm back on this thread as everyone was extremely lovely and helpful when I last posted back in June/July.
Uncle has been continuing with his meds but his blood pressure skyrocketed Tuesday and he had the most awful headache as well as fatigue so they have changed his medication. Still hasn't had the ablation procedure yet, still on the waiting list.
I'm very worried regarding the high BP. I don't know the exact reading but he said it was 177 over something?!
@DollyTubb crikey, hope you are ok now!!! Sorry for not seeing this earlier. Thanks for advice regarding BHF website, will have a look! I've been scared to google stuff as it can make everything seem worse.
