Five month old constantly rubbing/itching ear

Hello, my five month old has been constantly rubbing/itching his ear for a few months now! I’ve taken him to the GP loads of times now about it. The first time they looked in his ear they said they could see a problem and then said he was fine at the same appointment. He’s had lots of different creams to stop the itching but nothings working. He’s always doing it so I don’t think it’s a self soothing thing. Does anyone have any advice? He wakes up in the night crying rubbing his ear and if he can he’ll scratch until it bleeds. It’s horrible seeing him like it all the time it really bothers him, Any advice appreciated x

Have they ever given him antibiotics for his ear?

No real advice, but if he'll scratch until it bleeds there must be something really bothering him. Do you think it's inside the ear and has that been looked at properly?

He is absolutely gorgeous btw! 💙

My 9 month old does this! I think it's a self soothing thing but she's also had some eczema in the little folds of her ear that I was given steroid for. I've been back and forth to doctors thinking ear infections starting but nothing!
