HPylori positive help please

I have just been tested positive for HPylori

I mainly had chest pains and globus feeling in mouth. I saw a sore in my mouth as well the other day.

GP has given me a week of antibiotics - amoxillin, clarithromycin and Omeprazole for 1week

just need some assurance that a week of medicines will clear it up. Do you think I should get an endoscopy done?

also do I get my kids tested?

Don't worry too much, go with the doctor's recommendations. I had it also, similar symptoms although I had no idea what was causing it. Couldn't swallow food well, always felt I was going to choke, and appetite well reduced.

I am not saying you need it, but I had an endoscopy, that was because I was diagnosed following a stomach bleed (not pleasant) and they wanted to find out where the bleeding originated. It was just a tiny perforation in a tiny ulcer and that led to H pylori diagnosis.

Same treatment as you, but it lasted for two weeks.

Had a stool test four weeks after treatment ended to see if infection had cleared, it had, and I'm feeling fine now. I just take PPI (like nexium) to reduce acid and prevent any further bleed. I'm taking that long term, but every patient is different. Try to get reassurance from the doc.

It is a very common ailment, and at least yours was diagnosed, and you will be fine. It is not contagious so I doubt the kids need testing.

It’s a standard to give antibiotics for H. pylori.

Fun fact - the scientists who discovered the link between h. Pylori and ulcers won a noble prize.

Bumping this post for more advice

I’m better but I still have difficulty while swallowing

anyone has gone through this or can share some advice?

its been a week I completed a week course if antibiotics and now on Omeprazole for 2 weeks. Could it be a side effect of Omeprazole?

Thanks a lot

This infection can be fairly common.

Of course, if you're still getting symptoms it's worth chatting to the GP to ensure the bug has been dealt with.
The two outcomes would be that it hasn't - in which case you'll likely need further treatment.
Or it has - in which case they may want to do an endoscopy to rule out any other issues.

Hope you're feeling well again soon! It could just be that you need a little longer on the medications to heal it all up.

Me2you · 07/07/2023 18:50

I have just been tested for this.

I didn't really know why as according to the Internet i don't have any symptoms, but have just seen you all saying about swallowing and globus, this is what I went to the gp for the feeling of things being stuck in my throat for way over a week m haven't got the results yet.
Hope yours clears up.

Ritz3012 · 07/07/2023 21:48

now I m on Omeprazole for the next 3 weeks
had already for the last one week.
is there anyone who got better (something stuck in throat) and was prescribed 4 weeks of Omeprazole by the GP

hope you all feel better soon

Let us know how you get on with it?

Me2you · 10/07/2023 18:19

Hello
I have also tested positive now for this, glad I wasn't imagining the 'something I'm the throat feeling ' wasn't expecting it to be positive as didn't think I had any symptoms, have just convinced myself it was anxiety! Even tho I kmew it was there, just ran to the chemist b4 ut shunt for my medication but they dint have 1 out of the 3 so couldn't get anything of them.

Where do we catch this from then?
And same question you asked... do we teat the kids I've just got 1 little boy he's 3.

lilachouse · 10/07/2023 19:30

I was told it ran in families so when I was diagnosed mine all had tests and two had it, two didn’t. I would get them tested as it can lead to nasty tummy issues if left to own devices. And people don’t necessarily have symptoms for quite some time so could be lurking untreated.

Ritz3012 · 10/07/2023 21:56

I was told by the Drs that there is no need for the family to be tested unless symptomatic
Hpylori is like Candida everyone has it in the stomach only needs to be treated when it gives symptoms

please let me know your thoughts and how you get on with the medications aa o still have symptoms after completing a week of antibiotics

OP posts:
Me2you · 10/07/2023 22:14

Well I suppose its hard to kmow if a young child has symptoms as they can't full express their words, my son does sometimes say about his tummy hurting but they again hes allover the place with his eating.

I've read a few posts sayin ppl needed treating twice, so try not to worry. you will just need to get another lot of medication. How was the week.of antibiotics?

Ritz3012 · 11/07/2023 14:59

They were not pleasant to take. I somehow managed to complete the course

I still have a 2 weeks of Omeprazole to go.
how many weeks of antibiotics were you given?
i have recently spotted few spots in my mouth… read some information that Omeprazole can cause that? Can any of you share some info

OP posts:
Me2you · 12/07/2023 23:27

Just 1 week.. not even sure of when to take them all an can you even take the antibiotics together? With or without food just winging it so far.. have done 2 days in them.
You need to try and worry less (easier said than done ) as I have suffered horrendous anxiety in the past.

My only symptom that I went ro the GP with was the feeling of something always being stuck I'm my throat & and as if food wasn't fully going.

I stil have it now, already I'm thinking I bet it doesn't go and is unrelated to the Hplori.

Ritz3012 · 13/07/2023 19:11

Yes totally I still have the difficulty swallowing symptom so not sure if the HPylori caused it?

how are you feeling today? @Me2you

OP posts:
Me2you · 13/07/2023 19:22

How long have you had this?
Mine isn't so much swallowing it's fine when I eat but then after it's just like food is just stuck there in my esophagus! It's so annoying.

Ive had no side effects from antibiotics, got a feeling finding the hplori was just a coincidence and this throat thing isn't going anywhere!

Ritz3012 · 13/07/2023 19:31

I have had it for few weeks now. I feel like something is stuck at the back of my mouth

im really frustrated with this feeling that I feel like annoyed with the slightest of things at home

OP posts:
Me2you · 15/07/2023 16:57

Hi sorry I meant to reply the other day.. mine isn't so much the back of the mouth but further down.
.it's not really noticeable in a morning but as soon as I start eating its there for the day like swallowing is ok but bits of food after are stuck. Its so annoying an I've only got a few days left of the medication. I canr see it going.... also focusing on these symptoms make it so much worse aswell so it could have gone for you but as you are focusing on it so much you notice everything feeling and sensation!
I am also anxious as this has given me anxiety that I haven't had for a while.. telling myself I have all sorts of serious things wrong with me x

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 15/07/2023 17:03

I've had it twice.

Fun fact: it's thought that up to 60% of the worldwide adult population carry h.pylori. Many without symptoms.

The sore throat after the infection is probably due to the acid. But maybe get checked by your GP.

My second time I didn't take the omeprazole.

Ritz3012 · 18/07/2023 08:00

Yeah same with me

I have finished the course but the mouth symptoms are still present

it can be the anxiety but really struggling to not think about it. Feel frustrated

OP posts:
Boredofmyguts · 18/07/2023 08:38

I’m halfway through the course now and have been feeling a bit better but not sure it’s the ppi or the antibiotics.
I’m a bit worried it’ll all come back once I’ve finished and then what?
I’ve been taking a good probiotic at lunchtime so away from the antibiotics- I googled this. Also no dairy w the antibiotics as can impede absorption apparently (again, googled). Drs tell you nothing.
No side effects yet apart from metallic taste in mouth.
I’m going to GP tmw anyway as I made appt for results and they just sent through prescription- I want to carry on with the ppi and taper off properly.
I hate all this, as you can tell from my user name.

Boredofmyguts · 18/07/2023 09:49

Spoke too soon re side effects - the runs have started!!
