What do piles feel like?

Hi all. Sorry for slightly grizzly topic.

I'm pretty sure I've finally developed piles. When I shower and wash my bum I can feel something a little way in with my finger. It's not squishy (which is what I'd imagined piles would feel like) - it feels solid. However, I've not wanted to poke it hard for fairly obvious reasons :)

Can anyone reassure me that this is what an internal pile feels like? I'm happy to bother the doctor if I need to, but don't want to if this is absolutely par for the course.

Thanks for any help.

Bump. Any sufferers willing to share?

Itchy, burning, sore and pressure.

Forgot to say they look like small grapes. You can get Anusol 3 or 5? in one cream to alleviate the pain and eat a whole food diet, lots of fruit & veg plus water & they might shrink down but if not, see your GP for advice.

Thanks for that, but I think I didn't explain properly.

I mean what do they feel like when touched with a finger while washing. What I'm feeling is something hard, but I'd expected it to feel soft and squishy. I'm trying to work out whether this is normal.
