Ingrowing hair cyst?

Had this for some time now and finally going to see the doctor next week about it as want to get it removed but obviously need to confirm what it is first.

I'm embarrassed not going to the doctor by now but better late than never. Been googling (i know!) and of course you get worse case scenario but had a nurse tell me a while ago it looked like an ingrowing hair.

Has anyone had this before? Or any thoughts on what it may be? Pics added.

Did the nurse advise you to see your GP?

Personally I wouldn’t got to the GP for that unless there were clear signs of infection. I might go to the pharmacist and get some advice on things I could try to draw it out but in all honestly, I’d burst/squeeze it myself 🤷‍♀️

@Cornettoninja tried bursting it but it just heals itself. Could try the pharmacist but the nurse was a friend of mine. I'm worried about it being something more sinister. Might give the pharmacist a try. Thanks.

IME pharmacists are pretty cautious and will refer you to your GP if they’re suspicious at all. It’s definitely worth a punt though, if nothing else it’s likely a much quicker option than a GP.

The only kind of ingrown hair I’m aware of (bar obviously infected ones) is pilonidal sinuses at the base of the spine.

Pilonidal sinus

Read about pilonidal sinus, which is a small hole or "tunnel" in the skin. It usually develops at the top of the cleft of the buttocks, where the buttocks separate.

@Cornettoninja just really wanting to find out what it is. Will try seeing the pharmacist.
