Breast pain for last 5 weeks

Hi,

For last 5 weeks I've had pain in my right breast. I've been docs and they've had a feel and can't feel any lumps and I've had no changes to my breasts. They've said they're not concerned and to wear a sports bra and take ibuprofen.

Just wondering if anyone has had anything similar. It's very painful when lying down and getting back up and when I cough / laugh etc.seems to be worse at night too but dunno if I'm just noticing it more though..

Don't know if worth going private just for peace of mind or whether or not I'm overreacting

These things can be hormonal. Are you on the pill/pregnant/on a period?

zoomiesdrivememad · 20/06/2023 22:24

I had / have the same.

I went to my gp and they referred me to the breast clinic. I went there and due to my age and no other symptoms they didn't do a mammogram but diagnosed chest wall pain.

I do find it can be worse around my time of the month or the weeks when I'm ovulating or when I've exercised and done more chest exercises.

I feel the same really, it can make me very anxious as I think it must be something more but I do take ibruphen and use the gel as that's what they suggested.

Kinda accepted it's something I have to live with which is a bit shit tbh.

It's been non stop for 5 weeks so not period related. I'm not pregnant.

They've said same to me that pain alone isn't a risk it's just worrying isn't it and also really annoying having this pain.

I’ve had left breast pain for years, not related to period cycle. Although pain on its own is apparently very very rarely a sign of anything serious, my Gp put me to the breast clinic and I had a mammogram and ultrasound. Nothing serious found. I’ve since had routine mammograms and again, nothing has been found.
So I’ve just put up with it. Probably chest wall pain or one of those things.
so I’m saying it’s very unlikely that there is anything sinister going on but as it’s obviously making you anxious, I would push for a referral to a breast clinic for a mammogram.

I had a mammogram because of this sort of pain. It was clear and the doctor said it’s just hormonal pain. I do occasionally have sore breasts for a couple of days before my period but this had lasted for several weeks.

Anyway it stopped by itself and went back to being the normal cyclical pain just before my period. No idea why my breasts suddenly got stuck in “pain” mode that month!

Basically the doctor thinks that high hormone levels cause pain right before your period, then when the hormones decline again the pain stops. But for some reason my hormone levels didn’t decline that month and got stuck on “high” so the pain persisted. Probably because of peri menopause knocking my hormones out of whack. It was the end of the next cycle when the hormones finally declined and the pain stopped.

I had this after my second Covid vax, I had pain in the armpit of the injection arm from waking up the following day, I just thought it was a strange place for dead arm. Then it spread across my chest and was painful for about 6 or 7 months but not changing with my cycle, then I developed a lump in one breast and a mammogram showed it as not sinister. It was very frightening at the time and the pain continued for some months after.

I've since read that Evening primrose oil can be effective for hormonal breast pain.

Hows your pain now. I could have posted exactly the same thing except the pain is in one spot of my breast started last month a few days before my period and vanished when my periods ended. I do get sore boobs before my period but this was different and since my periods are irregular I can’t predict them accurately. This month my periods dont seem to be due till end of this week or next and since last week the pain is back but this time there is pain on both breast. Some days I have to hold my boobs to go down the stairs and it hurts to put my arms next to my breast as it hurts when they brush against. It’s causing so much stress and anxiety. I have breast implants but have had them for 8 yes now so don’t think it’s that. I have started taking starflower oil to see if it helps.

It's not as bad but still there when I cough / laugh etc but definitely subsided. My brother offered to get me a scan but I'm wondering if it's worth it now. I'm gonna give it another week and see how I get on. I hope you get some relief too soon

I have terrible pain in left breast at the moment. I can't even let the seat belt rest over it. Pain seems to be over the nipple area.
Period has stated today so could be related but other breast is fine.

Please ask your doctor to refer you to a breast clinic. I have breast cancer and my first symptom was a very sore breast. Then a lump appeared. I was told a few times that cancer isn't usually painful. It's better to put your mind at rest.
