Any ideas what this could this be? Is there a bug about?

I have felt crap for about a week, intermittent dizziness, very tired, nauseous, lower backache. I've just used a urine strip - huge keynotes top end of the strip (but noticed they are out of date so I think that means they're probably not correct), trace of protein.

I am not diabetic.

Tiredness is terrible, for instance I swam for 45 mins yesterday morning, didn't enjoy it but made myself do it as I'd arranged to meet someone, came home and slept for four hours, back to bed at 8:30 for 11 hours.

Haven't got a huge appetite but I am making myself eat small meals, have eaten a small roast lunch today plus some olives, stuffed peppers and a piece of bread with ham on it.

I feel absolutely rubbish. I'd blamed it on the heat but it isn't the heat because it has rained and cooled down.

I'm 55. History of UTIs hence remembered I had the strips in the house but I'm not sure its a UTI.

I am going to come on this thread as my neighbour has been like this for five days now. Same symptoms. No idea what it could be but I hope you feel better soon. I think after a week a trip to the docs is the best thing.

cherryassam · 18/06/2023 19:43

Have you done a Covid test? It sounds similar to how I felt with Covid last December. More general muscle aches but a sore lower back, dizzy, no appetite, knackered. No cough / cold / sore throat symptoms.

AsCloggedAsADysonFilter · 18/06/2023 19:45

Thanks @Highfivemum. I could go to the doctors tomorrow I guess.

No I haven't @cherryassam, I will see if I have still got some tests somewhere. Didn't cross my mind tbh.

It might not be of course! But we didn’t put 2+2 together until I’d been unwell for c.5 days and my DH for about 9/10 with the same symptoms and suddenly I lost my sense of taste and smell, and then we though of Covid and we both tested positive. DH had a fever but I never did.

Loafbeginsat60 · 18/06/2023 19:52

My neighbour and I both had the dizzy knackered bug a few weeks back. Was horrid but it did clear up after a few days.

Was sick twice too. Never found out what it was tho

AsCloggedAsADysonFilter · 18/06/2023 20:07

I've done a covid test but it was pointless - did anyone have the tests that had a drop of liquid in the vial - not enough for the test strip?

That's interesting @Loafbeginsat60, I can ride out a bug.

I had to put 3 vials together haha. If it's covid do you have any underlying health conditions which my make you vulnerable? If not I'd not bother testing

cherryassam · 18/06/2023 20:17

agree with @TriggeredByGravy , if you’re not vulnerable then there’s probs no need to test! we did because we’ve got CEV family and were due to be seeing them. And I have horrid health anxiety and wanted to know one way or the other. It didn’t change how we treated the symptoms. If it is Covid and a similar variant that we had, we were both feeling much better after about a week of showing symptoms. My DM also had a weird virus earlier this year that sent her dizzy and sick, wasn’t Covid and turned into Labyrinthitis but she was also feeling much better within 10 days and all better within about 3 weeks.

AsCloggedAsADysonFilter · 18/06/2023 20:21

I think it was my last test but need to have a look. I would prefer to know if it is COVID as I work with a colleague who cares for his 90 year old mum so would wfh.

OP posts:
IMustDoMoreExercise · 18/06/2023 20:26

The problem is that there is no guarantee that the old tests will pick up the new variants so there's really no point in testing as if you get a negative you won't know if you can see your friend.

AsCloggedAsADysonFilter · 18/06/2023 21:11

Thanks, I realised that but i thought it was worth doing in case it is positive if I had tests here. I only had the one with the inadequate amount of liquid so I won't be able to test again.

It feels nothing like the covid I've had before. I will probably drop off a sample to rule out a UTI as they track to my kidneys on a regular basis.

That's weird because ds and I have had a lingering cold (snotty for ages), him first then me. We've both felt sick and upset stomach at the latter part. He had done a couple of Covid tests (-) as we are a cev family.

Why I'm posting is I had random lower backache for a few days. I'd slept in a funny position because of my cold & cough, thought that was the reason but it seemed random and it didn't occur to me it was viral... quite odd if it was.

ethelredonagoodday · 18/06/2023 21:30

I had the awful dizzy thing a month or so ago. Wasn't fun.

AsCloggedAsADysonFilter · 18/06/2023 21:33

Quite a bit of it about then. I’d prefer a virus to a UTI. Mind you, neither of them will help me get through my nightmare of a week at work starting tomorrow.

Sounds like my covid did

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 18/06/2023 22:00

We had a house full of dizzy tired people two-three weeks ago, felt like a heavy cold but without any of the mucus or sore throats. Was quite covid-y but three tests came up negative (bearing in mind that they're last year's tests)
