Vitamin D loading dose hasn't reduced symptoms - what's next?

Has anyone else experienced this? I've just finished a seven week loading dose of vitamin D but have just as much pain and exhaustion as before. I'm gutted because I'd heard anecdotes of it being like a miracle cure!

My level was 21 before starting and I'm getting my bloods done again this week. I was expecting to be prescribed a daily dose now but as my symptoms haven't improved will I be given another loading dose instead?

If you've been deficient in vitamin D how long did it take to raise your levels and reduce symptoms - or does it sometimes not work?

Interesting to read this. DS (19) has been prescribed loading dose of vit d (20,000 every 2 weeks) and folic acid as he was low in folate. He has had pains in legs for years (not the first time he’s had a loading vit d dose). He also complains of tiredness a lot too. The vit d said to take with a large meal to aid absorption.

20,000 iu is a low loading dose. 40 -50,000 a week for six weeks is more usually prescribed
your sone may need a lot more

@Thatsafinememory 24 was before the loading dose. I finished it about four weeks ago and have been on the daily maintenance dose since then. I have other things going on which don't help (osteo- and axial spondyloarthritis) but I am less constantly weary. The shin (and femur) splints have eased but that was starting before the vit D could be because of the biologics I take. I think it's really about the overwhelming tiredness; my ferritin was ok, my calcium was ok and so was B12 so really just the vit D. I have read elsewhere that it can take weeks to feel the difference. HTH.

I'd also consider maintenance doses. I wouldn't call 800a high maintenance dose for example. I try to take about 20000 weekly (I am just lazy so I buy 10 000 tablets and take them twice a week).
