he will be 27 this year, i will be 26, we had to children already, aged nearly 9 and nearly 4, both of us are in complete agreement that we dont want anymore and DH doesnt want me to be taking the pill as i havent bled in months and months and its really affecting me, do u think they will decline him on the grounds of being to young?

I can't see why not. They do a counselling session beforehand with you to make sure that you have thought it through, and that you're both in agreement. You may have to work harder in this because you are relatively young, but otherwise (unless there is a medical reason) I can't see why they would refuse you the op.

Lio · 22/02/2008 11:49

Complete guess but I'd say he would NOT be declined. Make the GP appt for both of you (they'll want to see you both).

My Husband had it done last year - he was 31 at the time and we have 2 children aged 3and 18 months.

He was asked all the questions like what would you do if one of your children died?

He answered well another child wouldn't replace the one we lost.

I can't see there being a problem if you are both adamant.

A man is entitled to a free 'snip' if he has 4 or more children. Otherwise it's down to medical reasons afaik.

Friends of ours had to go for counselling and the dh was asked how would he feel if the current relationship ended and he later started another one and he and the new partner wanted children. Sorry if that sounds negative but you need to be sure adn have your answers ready if you are.

loopylou6 · 22/02/2008 12:21

thanks mercy, will keep that in mind, we are deffo sure we dont want no more, even if we split he wouldnt want anymore as he feels his nappy days are over lol

That's exactly what our friend said too - the last thing he would want was to start all over again!

Good luck!

my dh had the snip in jan on nhs only 3 months after seeing is gp.
We have 2 dc aged 2 and 3. DH is 38.
was only asked if he was sure and wether I was in agreement.

Not sure about the 4 children Mercy, unless he has some I don't know about

JodieG1 · 22/02/2008 13:02

My dh had one last year just 3 weeks after the birth of ds2, they had a cancellation so only watied about 6 weeks from when he first went. The dr did ask him about future relationships but he doesn't want any more children regardless. I didn't have to go but he did say I agreed to it, which I did.

He was 28 at the time as was I. He had no problems with being young at all.

loopylou6 · 22/02/2008 13:39

oooooo fab, thanks for sharing ladies, am more hopeful now

Seems a totally reasonable request to me, as long as you are both in agreement that your family is completed no matter what the future may bring.

Vasectomy is pretty quick and easy with a short recovery time. Locally, the waiting time is 6-8 weeks. Good on your other half for volunteering!

loopylou6 · 22/02/2008 18:21

well he went the doc and the doc said he doesnt think it will be a problem, although he will need to speak to both of us together before referring us to the hospital, then the hospital will again speak with us as a couple, justto make sure we know what we're doing i suppsoe, then the surgery will go ahead yay

Waiting times vary. Dh got his snip, but after 18 months on the waiting list (we have 2 children).

RubberDuck · 22/02/2008 18:23

Oops, cross post - you already know what you're doing!!
