Rotator cuff pain syndrome 😞

Fractured top of arm 6 weeks ago and pain has increased. Went to physio today and she has diagnosed rotator cuff syndrome. Everything I've googled seems to suggest pain will increase for 6 months despite exercises. It's worse at night. She's said 5 days of constant painkillers and then I'm seeing her again. Anyone else ever had this?

Hi... I've had a torn rotator cuff, and the pain is definately worse at night.... it certainly isn't a quick fix. My movement was also restricted, it was even painful to change gear when driving.
I'm pretty much pain free now, 18mths down the line, but my movement is still not 100%. I found a TENS machine helped a lot, pain killers didn't really help much, and you just have to keep going with the physio exercises..

I had this as a student was awful. Acupuncture was the only thing that worked.

Acupuncture and Tens sounds good. All the muscles around my neck and shoulder are hard as rock

I did try acupuncture, unfortunately that didn't work for me.. I was able to wear the tens machine under my work clothes and tuck the machine in my waistband, so it was there if I needed it.. my shower was a god send as I couldn't actually get in or out of the bath.. not having any idea when it might get better, or seeing any progress was very frustrating :(

I'm laying on rhe sofa feeling utterly deflated. Stupidly thought once the break was healed I'd just be carrying on as normal.

I had a rotator cuff injury, it does heal eventually but takes a long time, what helped me at night was a rotator cuff shoulder support, it felt like it kept my shoulders in alignment and let me sleep on my good side without my bad shoulder dropping down. Amazon do them. X

Just reading your thread made me realise that my rotator cuff shoulder pain has gone. I couldn’t lift my arm to take clothes off or brush my hair with that side. It was worse at night when I turned over onto my side but the pain has gone now!

That's encouraging! How long did it take?

I had it, very painful so sympathies. For me I had to keep it moving despite the pain, but avoided heavy lifting etc. Also kept arm level on a pillow so it wasn’t dripping down at night or squashed.

I never heard of jaw pain with rotator cuff injuries, I think you should get that checked out op.

I was given a steroid injection for mine after physio was useless. Made a huge difference and within a couple of weeks was like I'd never had it. That was a couple of years ago and now I get twinges but that's all.

Coastalcreeksider · 18/06/2023 12:36

I had it for three years. Physio made it worse, had three lots, three steroid injections. Pain was unbearable at times. Finally referred for surgery was lucky enough to get operation very quickly.

Been perfect ever since.

Had rotator cuff injury and the pain lasted in decreasing degrees for more than a year but it got worse before it got better because I also developed a frozen shoulder. I am only now able to lie on the damaged side to sleep and it’s been over 2 years. I’ve eventually been saw a chiropractor whose helped more than physio did.

Thanks. Pain better today with painkillers thank goodness. Seeing a physio regularly so if no improvement will try and get an mri

@Coastalcreeksider was yours torn?

I’ve had this for almost a year now. I’ve had an mri and there is no tear. Just inflammation. I had a PRP procedure a week ago and it’s made no difference at all. I’m so desperate to get it sorted. Physio and exercises aren’t touching it. I’ve had two steroid injections, and the second was useless, though the first worked for a while.
