Hi all just after some advice and to see if anyone has suffered, basically 19 year old ds back from a weeks holiday last Thursday, has been ill since.

Severe pain at top of stomach with everything he eats or drinks- called Gp( phone appointment prescribed lanzoprazole for stomach acid problems, come the Saturday was rolling about the floor in agony attended A&E who done various tests and X-ray of the chest all clear and again said must be stomach acid reflux and to keep with the medication,. Now Tuesday and has been no improvement at all he hasn’t eaten in almost 6 days but is in agony with every bite of food he trys to eat.

called GP again today another phone appointment and he basically said he thinks he has had to much alcohol on holiday which has affected his stomach and to just keep with water and medication….

has anyone every had severe acid reflux problems which is so painful and just can’t eat ? Do we just wait and see? he’s sooo hungry and weak but just can’t stand the pain, I don’t know where to go from here and I’m so worried , any advice would be appreciated.

Did the doctor not prescribe Gaviscon too OP? Using that regularly will help until the lansoprazole kicks in (assuming it is gastritis).

That's not his stomach? Are the doctors aware of the actual location of pain? Perhaps there is some confusion if he has chest pain but is telling them stomach

Also could it be costocondritis?

That’s classic acid reflux pain, heartburn, reflux affects your oesophagus not your stomach.
My 19 year old also being investigated for reflux. Have you tried him with Gaviscon Advance? It’s the best out of the antacids, but don’t take within two hours of the lanzoprazole.

Gastritis? Very uncomfortable

My immediate thought.

When I had this it was 3 weeks before I even started to feel better.

Did he drink a lot on holiday? My first thought would be pancreatitis if he did. Didn’t A&E do any blood tests? He needs his amylase checking.

If you don’t get appointment for GP I would go to AE . Could be ulcer, pancreatitis and he could be dehydrated by now.

Sorry just relised he has been to AE .

@Trytohelp aware this thread is now several months old so not sure whether you'll see this message, but would you mind me asking what treatment you were advised and how long did it take resolve? I am experiencing very similar symptoms which I believe is a result of taking a long course of doxycycline. I had an ultrasound yesterday which came back normal, as have my blood tests. I'm wanting to push for an endoscopy due to severe pain for the past 7 days and no previous history of gastric reflux.
