Unexplained fever for 5 days

My 2 year old has had a fever for 5 days (39.6), was only at nighttime but now it has started to come on during the day too. I went to the GP but they just put it down to the heat and sent us home without anything. Is it worth going back to the GP if it doesn't get better? I don't want to waste anyone's time but likewise would like to see her getting better by day 5!

Has anyone dealt with anything similar? Sorry I know this isn't a GP surgery but they are not so helpful I find!

Is she teething?

Yes!

I would imagine a 40 degree fever is too high for teething. It's probably a nasty virus.

Yes I think so too, I'm taking her back to the doctor's tomorrow so hopefully will get some antibiotics to shift whatever it is.

Casting my mind back to when my kids were little I think the GP’s trigger for further investigation was a fever lasting more than 7 days that wasn’t brought down by paracetamol. However that is a high fever and I’d probably want the GP to check their ears/chest/throat/wee for infection. If it’s a virus you won’t be getting antibiotics however.
