HELP: husband has malaria symptoms

giraffesauce · 12/06/2023 23:46

We just got back from Mexico this afternoon and he developed a temperature that got up to 39, now down to 38.

spoke to a GP on the phone who advised we go to A&E to rule out malaria. We’re in London and just arrived at A&E only to be told there’s a 7 hour wait

were headed to another A&E but I would really appreciate some advice on alternative options - is there a 24hr walk in clinic or travel clinic we could go to?

please help I’m really worried

The malaria risk is low in Mexico. Try not to think worst case scenario.

I hope you have better luck at the next a&e

Just check in and wait. Neighbours OH waited 30 hours to be seen. It's tough but is what it is I'm afraid

Dengue fever is common in Mexico too.

There isn't really. I checked the hospital for tropical diseases at uclh but you can only go there during office hours. Out of hours is you local emergency department.

Has he done a covid test? Seems to be plenty of it about.

Thank you to everyone that commented. It was a turbulent night, but in the end we were seen at UCLH A&E and they were able to confirm he doesn’t have malaria, but he does have a yet to be confirmed tropical virus (could be dengue). He will be ok.

That's unfortunate OP my friend came back with a tropical virus that caused temporary paralysis. I'm glad he's being looked after now
