ANYBODY HAVE THE CURE TO HAYFEVER YET?!

ShellaB · 10/06/2023 08:42

I literally cannot deal with this allergy to pollen anymore. Every flipping year I think "nope not gonna get it this year".

I have my two children to take care of (the eldest being two) and it's been a lot more difficult to do so with this hayfever.

I just want to rip my whole head off omgggggg. This should be classed as an illness. I know all these pharmaceutical companies are making a gold mine from these allergy medicines, and if there was a cure then blah blah blahhh, but I'm yet to find one that is actually effective.

They can find a way to get to space, but can't find a cure for hayfever. They can create AI and all these stuff.... Even fake meat!! But cannot have a cure for hayfever.

Seriously man I'm suffering so bad here.. anyway I've had my little rant. Does anyone know of anything that really helps hayfever so that I can function normally throughout the day!!! I've heard of the one where they give you doses of pollen, but isn't that like £3000? Please I'm desperate 😭.

My DS has always found a nasal spray better than antihistamines. But apparently Allevia tablets used to be prescription only, but you can now buy them.

Lazyladydaisy · 10/06/2023 08:48

I've started taking Allevia...Best thing ever! I have got a nasal spray too, but hardly need it.
I would recommend if you haven't already tried them.

JeandeServiette · 10/06/2023 08:50

Have you tried the injection?

Sunshinebuttercupsrainbows · 10/06/2023 08:50

I’ve been taking 120mg of fexofenadine every single day from 1st February this year and I’ve not had a hint of hay fever for the first time in my life. Highly recommend!

ShellaB · 10/06/2023 08:53

Can I just pop into boots and purchase the Allevia? Or does it have to be a special chemist?

You have my sympathy. I wish it could be cured too.

I take two once a day antihistamines, put vaseline round my nose, take an inhaler, have an air filter in my room, and wear an eye mask at night. It all helps but i still have symptoms that are noticble and affect my day to day function and everyone says 'have you tried an antihistamine?'

Wishing you low pollen days.

ShellaB · 10/06/2023 08:53

Which injection is this?

Oh OP it's terrible! I have lots of allergies so deal with them all year long, but this season is the absolute worst. Like having a bad head cold for months on end.
I have found that what works best for me is an steroids based nasal spray. Avamis or similar. I do have to keep on top of it though and it doesn't get rid of the symptoms completely, but it stops my bleeds from blowing my nose so much.

What is Allevia? I've never heard of it!

Any chemist/supermarket selling it

Google it ! It’s fexofenadine

AlisonDonut · 10/06/2023 08:56

I have had it my whole life and this year it is so, so bad.

The only way I alleviate it is to switch brands of antihistamine regularly, use nasal sprays and tiger balm to keep your nose clear and most importantly, take sudafed which dries up the nose. If mine gets too bad it gets onto my lungs and then it gives me breathing issues which often end up in months of coughing and I get very ill indeed.

For sneezing this year, I ended up rinsing my upper nasal passages out with 3% hydrogen peroxide a few weeks back as I could not stop bloody sneezing and it was making me sick.

ShellaB · 10/06/2023 08:56

It's just bad isn't it. Had it all my life... Couldn't play with the 'normal' kids in the playground on the grass because of this haha. Wishing you those days too! ☺️

Our pharmacy does their own version of allevia-same drug but much cheaper. Works well during the day but piriton better for night for me

KetoQueen · 10/06/2023 08:58

I went to acupuncture on 2003 and never had it again. I walked in feeling like I had full on flu and left completely fine an hour later and I’ve never had it again! I had it really badly for at least ten years. I would to say to anybody suffering like this - please give acupuncture a go.

ShellaB · 10/06/2023 08:59

Thank you everyone!! I'm going to go and get some Allevia as we speak so hopefully it's a success for me, and I can actually enjoy the summer for once and not wishing for it to be over! Will let you know how it goes!! 🤞🏼

My DH has it very badly at the moment. Takes 180mg fexofenadine/ Allevia. He is still suffering very badly though, especially with eye irritation.. looks awful, I’m lucky I’ve never had it!

ShellaB · 10/06/2023 09:00

I'll try anything at this point, this needs to end haha

I've been taking TreatHay this year, purchased from Morrisons. It doesn't make me drowsy and stops the hayfever in its tracks. Best thing I've used.

ShellaB · 10/06/2023 09:00

Oh dear! Do you suffer with asthma too?

What is this sorcery? My sister does acupuncture and I've always found it to be very nonsensical. She used to practise with me though and would talk to herself about not knowing what she was doing whilst poking me in various places. I did lose faith obviously 🤣

Peridot1 · 10/06/2023 09:03

Another recommendation for Allevia here. I take it every night and a nasal spray every morning which seems to keep on top of it. I have been so much better this year since I started doing that.

The Allevia is Fexofenadine and you can get a higher dose on prescription.

It took me years to realise but the key with hayfever is to take the medication consistently. Not just when you have symptoms.

happysunr1se · 10/06/2023 09:04

You need to take antihistamine proactively and consistently before the pollen you are allergic to comes into season. Make a note now of when your symptoms appeared, next year start taking those medications 2 weeks before the anniversary of that pollen arriving.

Also look at the actual drug in these branded medicines. You can buy in bulk off amazon for cheaper; loratidine, cetirizine hydrochloride, fexofenandine. No need to waste money on brand names as the drug is exactly the same.

Lastly, those one a day tablets, you can take more than 1 a day.
Currently I take fexofenadine 120mg am, cetirizine pm and a nasal steroid at bed time. My hayfever is under control with this method this year.

Peridot1 · 10/06/2023 09:06

@KetoQueen - I had acupuncture for hayfever too years ago and found it great but I think it really depends on the practitioner. And sadly it wasn’t a permanent fix for me.
