Immodium then diahorrea

I have no gall bladder with the side effect of having diahorrea (sorry!) quite often, depending on what I've eaten.

If I'm going out for the day I'll take a couple of immodium to make me feel secure and not worried about access to a loo.

Then I might be constipated for a few days, then I'll have a couple of days with more frequent diahorrea. Apoligies for tmi but you know I'm not a troll!

Is this a common side effect of taking immodium?

Not glamorous but hopeful bump?

I don't know much about this but I assume it's your body compensating for the immodium pills, and trying to rebalance?

As far as I know immodium isn't supposed to be taken to prevent diahorrea, only as a treatment after the first bout. So I assume by taking it preventatively, your body is then overcompensating afterwards.

I haven't got a gallbladder and also have frequent diarrhoea. I recently developed diverticulitis and have had two recent hospital admissions because of this. Today I had an appointment with the consultant. He felt that the diverticulitis was mild (!!) but, having looked carefully at my history realised that the frequency of diarrhoea was the main problem.
He recommended using Imodium as a preventative measure ( like you do when going out for the day), but didn't say anything about side effects on later days. I'm going to give it a go again. I used to take Imodium before the dd diagnosis.
Meanwhile he has referred me for a bile acid malabsorption test as this is common in those without gallbladders.

The body has to expel the food waste so immodium is just a temporary relief , all it does is slow the bowel down so once you stop all the stored waste will be expelled quickly
