Pile and colonoscopy help! Worried

I’ve had IBS all my life (38) and am pretty sure I’m lactose intolerant. A few weeks ago I was quite bad with diarrhoea and going a lot. Gp did a fit test and a fecal calprotectin. The fit test was 66 (and the calprotectin level 70 something so in the borderline range. Obviously I was very worried. I’ve got little ones and keep thinking I’ve got cancer but I started eating much better and watching my lactose intake more and found my symptoms much better and back to regular bowel motions. Got referred for a colonoscopy, did the low residue diet for 4 days as I wanted to make sure they could really see things clearly. On the fourth day the colonoscopy got cancelled. By that point because of the low residue diet presumably and Only having white toast, eggs and chicken I was very constipated. Managed to go this morning with some difficulty but I now have a pile popped out about the size of a grape. I say a pile, I’ve never had one before so I’m hoping it’s that and nothing sinister. It’s really sore. I’ve got to start the low residue diet again tomorrow and I’m worried about the constipation making this worse. Can I take any laxatives or will that mess up the colonoscopy test? how on earth are they going to get a camera in past it. It hurts to put the cream on so I’m really dreading the test now more than ever? Also is it likely that this pile was inside and might have cause the positive fit test? Any advice gratefully received over here

I am not a doctor. But I had a colonoscopy with a drink which flushes you out before the procedure. I am not sure how that works with piles etc. But I was not allowed to eat from previous lunchtime until 5pm next day ( Colonoscopy ) I would phone and check they have you booked in correctly because everyone I know who has had this procedure you do not eat at all in the preceding 12 - 18 hours ish. I would phone and explain your worries

I wish you well

I wouldn't worry about being constipated ahead of doing the prep as the prep will absolutely rinse you out.

I can see why you are worried about the pile but they will just go last it. The camera is small and they'll use lube.

They should take a look first in any case to ensure they can get the camera in ok.

Can you call the clinic and talk to them about it? They might want you to wait til the pile goes down.

And yes piles can cause blood in stools as can a number of other things, do you know if it was fresh blood? As that is more likely to be caused by something lower in the bowel/nearer the anus.

I had problems with my colonoscopy but they were related to me comorbidities, the team were totally great and took good care of me and I felt really well looked after, you'll be fine.

@BasiliskStare I know I have to fast the day before. I’m just a bit worried about the two days preceding of no fibre and constipation with this pile

Call for advice OP. It might be worth delaying a couple of weeks to let the pile go down.
