Just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience. I’ve experienced feelings of breathlessness for about 9 months now. Comes and goes. Feels like it’s in my throat rather than chest. Have had a few occasions when it’s gone on all night and I feel like I’m gasping. I’ve had chest x ray and bloods - no physical cause. Likely to be anxiety (not ever had this symptom before and I’m in my 50s). Doctor has put me on anxiety meds which have helped with my sleep but I’m still getting incidents of breathlessness. Not sure where to go from here?

I'd see the GP again if I were you. It's easy to write that kind of thing off as anxiety, but that may not be the cause. Do you feel you are anxious?

I would get a second opinion - I’m assuming they checked your heart function?

However if it all comes up clean again then l think meditation / breathing exercises and stuff like that. There’s an organisation called breathing space in London and I expect it’s linked with similar places.

A friend had this and turns out she is asthmatic- never diagnosed previously, she is mid 40s. Worth getting a lung function test.

Thank you. I thought it’s probably anxiety related as I’ve been going through a tough patch at work and the breathlessness got worse during this time. However, it is a new thing - previously I always had tummy problems when stressed/anxious. Maybe I will go back to the GP.
