Have had issues with my B12 levels and after 3 months on tablets, had a text from GP today saying i need a course of injections.....

My issue is how I fit these in around o work, I have to have 6 over 2 weeks, and am away with work next week

After the first injection you may be more flexible with the timing of the rest. Retired haematologist.

I had 2 loading doses then had to have a gap of a week before my next one and I was 6 weeks pregnant at the time. I can't actually remember why there was a gap, I think we had to isolate due to covid exposure at the time.
I didn't actually feel any different til a couple weeks after I'd had all the doses but I've not needed to have anymore since.
Just book as many in as you can before you go away and then for as close to when you get back.

Simple solution is book yourself in for appointments at 8am or whatever time it opens. get 3 lots done in one week, explain you are away then book 3 early appointments for the week you are back.

At least you will have had 3 intakes of B12 which should help you.

I was just hoping someone could tell me if I had 2 next week then 4 the following if that would be ok.

Perhaps you should have asked that then?

People are not mind readers and I don't think anyone would have realised that's what you were asking when essentially all you posted was a moan about how you cant manage the appointments.

I’ve just had the loading doses over three weeks as they couldn’t fit them in in two weeks due to the bank holidays. Be prepared though, I felt a lot worse when I was taking them and only now a few weeks later am I starting to feel better.

Apologies. It was early, I feel rotten and have been thinking about it all night

Update us about what solution you find, OP. It's hard to think when you feel rotten. x

Spoke to surgery, turns out they can't start them till 12th June anyway, all booked in so feel a bit more positive now
Was quite surprised I'm not allowed to have a new prescription of b12 in the meantime though

When i was first diagnosed, the doctor actually walked me into the nurse (she was between patients, and she did knock first) and asked her to give me my first injection before leaving the surgery!

@lalalalalalaleeee

I'm sorry I was far too snippy to you earlier. I'm glad you have got it sorted now

medianewbie · 02/06/2023 18:21

I had extremely low B12 not treated properly during Covid.
I was never offered loading doses, just every 12 weeks. I'm now every 8 but I have long term brain fog & neuropathic pains in my feet still.
I hope you get this sorted as soon as you can OP x

elevenpartharmony · 02/06/2023 22:18

I had a gap with my last one or two, OP. It wasn't planned; it's just how it worked out with appointment cancellations. It still made the world of difference.

Good luck. I know you feel like you're barely hanging on right now, but you'll feel so much better after the first two shots. It's like coming up for air.

Endofroadwhatnext · 02/06/2023 23:47

OP i had to space mine out over three weeks as I was ill half way thru so couldn’t drive to surgery. I would just book a few before your trip then resume straight after.

PerfectYear321 · 02/06/2023 23:54

During COVID a lot of surgeries started teaching people to self-administer. Maybe this is an option for you?
