Thickening of breast tissue but told to watch and wait?

Hi,

I had a baby 6 weeks ago. Recently I found what I thought was a lump in my breast however I saw the GP today who said it's definitely thickening of the tissue and not a lump. They said to follow up in a month to see if it's still there as I've not long had my baby. I'm pretty anxious thanks to Dr Google! Is it standard to wait like this? I'm 31 and worrying. Any positive stories appreciated too!

Thanks!!

I had this whilst I was pregnant, and more recently after starting on HRT, and both times it has just been hormonal changes causing exactly what you describe - a thickening of the tissue. The good thing is that you're aware of how your body feels, and know to check.

However, when I found the lump when I was pregnant I was referred on to the breast clinic for an ultrasound, this latest one for a mammogram, so if you can still feel it I would maybe ask for referral, to put your mind at rest if nothing else.

Just remember t that these sorts of hormonal changes are really common, and vastly more often than not nothing to worry about.
