Hello, I started 2 lots of antibiotics last week for H.pylori and anti sickness tablets and stomach protectors.
After 2 days I had to stop the antibiotics because they made me so ill I was weak and tired I was in a state then the next day I still felt bad again so I took the antibiotics for another 5 days I stopped them because they was giving me bad side effects still. I noticed if I took them a few hours earlier the side effects would stop long before the next dose as soon as I took next dose within a hour there back the hospital told me I’ll have bad side effects as the combination. Also had blood in my stools so it was cleaning me out way to much that’s why I feel I’ve done them long enough.
Am I right to stop within these side effects or should I continue taking the last 3 days I did stop them yesterday and haven’t felt like it since. Can’t even drive feeling like that it’s unsafe that’s how bad I felt.

I recently had 11 days of Penicillin V and I'm still recovering from the side effects (thrush, gut balance buggered) but I persevered with it by basically taking time off work, which was an absolute bummer, and DP doing a hell of a lot.

Do you need to drive for DC / work?

Can you get through to your GP surgery to talk to someone?

Total sympathies Flowers

Side effects sound awful, I’m sorry! H pylori isn’t nice and you probably do need to complete the full course. I’d ring the GP and tell them the issues! They may be able to switch you to the alternative option. Or prescribe you something to manage the symptoms. If ultimately you do stop them they need to know as they will likely the follow up with a test to see if the h pylori has returned/ not fully left.

I can't have penicillin, there is a gastro friendly amoxycillin....can you change to those..??

I dunno how to reply individually guys sorry lol, but in regards to GP I can never get through times 9:30 every appointment is gone if you ring just after 8 your in a big big 40 line que you won’t make it in time for an appt, econsult is ALWAYS off so can’t even use that I’ve even emailed practice manager before 4 times once was a complaint didn’t get no reply, I took it to nhs England who said they don’t deal with independent GP’s as I’ve had nothing but trouble with them
In regards to the antibiotics I’d rather just stop then risk anymore illness I can’t afford to be like that its come to the point I’d rather have h.pylori and suffer that way instead of suffer from them tablets it’s totally unreal coming from someone that’s had everything done medically I can’t stick that! I can tolerate any medication and strengths just not that
I am also allergic to penicillin so they had to give me an alternative but haven’t benefited from it . Feel stuck because if I don’t take them I’m going to be infected still if I do I’m deathly gravely unwell!
