Any one ever broken their jaw?

I have TMJ dysfunction so a dodgy clicky jaw anyway but yesterday I got whacked in the jaw by a flying ball on duty in school.
I can open my mouth wide and it doesn’t hurt if I press my jaw bone so I presumed it was ok. But I can’t chew anything or press my back teeth together- it’s really painful. It’s also swollen. I’m thinking it’s probably just a bruise but am wondering how I’d know if it was a fracture- any thoughts appreciated!

Ouch that sounds painful. I think an urgent x ray is needed to check for a fracture. A fractured cheek bone can let bacteria from the mouth into your brain, which can be devastating. If there is a fracture a course of antibiotics will sort this out.

Thank you- didn’t know that about the bacteria!

I have had that feeling. Couldn't go to a hospital as was on a small island. It felt like my mouth didn't fit together. Was really swollen for a couple of weeks but did eventually heal on its own.

Never did find out if it was broken or dislocated and teeth fit together now.

I would go to hospital and ask for an xray if you are able to though. Not sure if they would do any treatment but it might heal quicker with an operation, you never know...

could only eat mush for quite a long time though. A doctor might even be able to pop it back for you if it is dislocated.

The only way you are going to know if it is broken is to to get an X-ray. Sounds horrible, Op. Get yourself down to A&E.
