Mid thigh, weird pain that comes and goes. What could it be?

I know, you lot aren't able to diagnose me with anything! But for the last two days I've had a random pain that comes and goes in my left outer thigh. It doesn't matter what I'm doing it will still happen and as I've been lying here it's napped a few times in the last half an hour.

I am a wimp with pain so I notice these things!

I've never had anything like this before and it feels 'weird' to me

There's no swelling, bruising, hotness etc and nothing unusual otherwise

Hoping for someone to just say it's a trapped nerve or something?

It's mid outer thigh in the same place every time.

I get random thigh pains when I’m ovulating, could it be that?

Redebs · 21/05/2023 00:00

Most likely is sciatica, originating in pressure on nerves in your back. Does it go when you shift position?
It could also be muscular or varicose veins.

Slight chance it could be something serious, but I don't want to name scary stuff at this time of night and worry you. If it doesn't get better with movement, then give GP a call on Monday

I'm on the pill so I don't think it's that. Thanks though

Thank you for your reply.
It seems to happen if I'm lying down, walking, standing - it doesn't really matter what I'm doing.
But it is very random throughout the day.

Hopefully it's nothing scary and just me getting old!

As I'm typing it literally happened again for 1 second! It's so weird but really noticeable.

Is your thigh numb? I’ve got meralgia paresthetica and it affects my outer thigh. Pain and numbness. It’s a compressed nerve in the hip.

Hi,
No numbness, nothing else is odd. Other than this random pain that comes and goes in the mid/outer thigh area.

I was also going to say meralgia paraesthetica. It's compression of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh. I get it on and off, usually if I've put a bit of weight on.

Did you find out what it was? I have the same

weirdthigh · 22/03/2024 20:43

Hello,
Unfortunately not! It went away after a few days, never to return!
