My eyelid is inflamed

Because of using the internet on the phone during the day.

I used to be fine with it but now i feel and look like ive got a blackeye (bit its very red) and so itchy.

Its never both eyes, just one.

Why is it doing it? Ive had it over 2 years on and off but ive had the phone internet for years.

I wear glasses but not often enough. Maybe thats the cause???

How would using the internet on your phone cause it?

HeidiUpTheMountain · 20/05/2023 09:39

Stop being silly and wear your glasses when you need them.

But that will only cause eye strain, not inflammation. It sounds as though you have recurring blepharitis to me. Annoying but manageable. The NHS website has information on it.

underneaththeash · 20/05/2023 12:46

Not wearing glasses can't cause eyelid inflammation, nor can using a pc (although it can make your eyes dry).

can you post a picture?

Rummikub · 20/05/2023 12:48

Ask your pharmacist about chloramphenicol. More likely infection rather than internet/ eyestrain.

biglips · 20/05/2023 13:52

Its only flared up when i used the phone internet alot during that day...my eye start to itch.

Now ive got a small white spot just right under the top lashes and eyelid is inflamed. I say its the phone usage cos it what my doctor said

You need a second opinion. How could the phone/“phone internet” possibly cause that?

biglips · 20/05/2023 14:31

@garman thats what i dont know either as doc said " its because of too much technology usage caused your eyelid to become inflamed"

Sometimes my eyeball would be red too.... only one or the other eye would be inflamed, never both at the same time. My eyelid was half closed as so puffy yesterday. It starting to be ok ish

Ill go into the chemist on Monday and see what they say.

Blepharitis? Might be a blocked duct. Try hot compresses and saline drops.

Childhoodnostalgia · 20/05/2023 14:33

And make sure when you’re on the internet a lot that you look away from your phone regularly and blink several times to encourage tear production.

Lamelie · 20/05/2023 14:33

Stye coming up.
Your doctor sounds rather, um strange.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 20/05/2023 14:37

Bit of a reach but could it be your phone needs a good clean, could be as simple as bacteria transferring via eye rubbing

Try very diluted baby shampoo in warm water to bath your eyes twice a day

biglips · 20/05/2023 14:39

@Lamelie i did mention stye as ive had a few times a spot on top of the inflamed bit.

Can stress cause it? As i am going through a lot rn

Daffodilsandtuplips · 20/05/2023 14:43

It looks like a stye, it has a proper name but I can’t remember it. I think a Chalzone? I get them, Chuck out all of your eye make up a buy new, buy a heated eye mask from Amazon, heat it up in the microwave for however long the masks instruction leaflet tell you to. Close both eyes and put a tissue over the infected eye. Sit with the mask over your eyes until it cools down, have lint free cotton wipes and cooled previously boiled water at the ready and wipe the eyelids from inner corner to outer corner. Discard the cotton pad and use a fresh one for each wipe.
The heat should bring the pimple to a head and burst it. Repeat twice a day.

biglips · 20/05/2023 14:43

Thanks for all your advices.

And yes my doctor must be strange!! 🤣

If you’ve had a spot several times in the same spot and now this it could be you need it draining.

Lamelie · 20/05/2023 14:45

100% yes! My mum always got one at Christmas and I have one now a couple of months after a sad event. The body keeps the score; I also have piles and only just recovered from a cold since January.

@biglips i had something similar to this a while ago, really itchy and red. I got some hydrocortisone cream 1% and that seemed to clear it up. I also used eye drops for a while too.

I’ve not had the problem since

@Daffodilsandtuplips thank you. Ive got a heated eye mask too and thankfully i havent worn makeup in months.

I’d Still ditch the eye make up. Don’t put hydrocortisone near your eyes. Especially 1%, it’s too strong. And especially not on an open sore. The skin around your eyes is thinner than the rest of your face.
Clean your phone with anti bio wipes and keep fingers away from your eyes after using your phone.

Fab. Thank you for your advices.

Much appreciated

You've got meibomian gland dysfunction, which is one of the types of blepharitis. Our patient information leaflet is here
file:/Users/carolewharrier/Downloads/Meibomian%20gland%20dysfunction.pdf

You need to follow the advice here for hot compresses and lid massage.
https://www.moorfields.nhs.uk/sites/default/files/Blepharitis.pdf

Eye drops which contact lubricants will help your eyes feel more comfortable, the ones which contain sodium hyluronate are the most effective eg Systane.

If it's no better in a couple of weeks, there are other treatment options, but it tends to relapse anyway.
