Splinter

I'm fairly certain I got a splinter in my finger on Sunday.
I've tried digging it out with needle and tweezer... I've tried magnesium stuff several times but nothing has come out and I can't actually see anything in there.
But the spot where I think the splinter is, is very red and swollen and hurts with pressure.
It's right on the crease of the tip of finger so hurts to bend/use it.

Any other tips for finding the bugger??

Nurse at doc surgery gave me a plaster impregnated with something years ago to get splinter out of dc foot. Took a few days and had to change it but did eventually appear. Awful whopper it was, no wonder it hurt. Maybe ask at the chemist.
