Lump on breast

Hi there

I have found a sore lump on my breast this evening. It is like a spot and it's painful to touch. I noticed something on my bra and it was where it had burst for want of a better word - sorry that's gross. I shower every day and only noticed today.

It's on my breast, underside. I've been looking up if I need to go to a doctor but I've just heard of someone I know has passed away and my brain is frazzled.

I do have hidradenitis suppurativa but it's never been in this area. It doesn't feel the same as that.

I'm just feeling overwhelmed. Do I need to go to the doctor to get it checked? I'm reading things like painless lump, dimpling etc and what I see doesn't fit any of these descriptors. I have autism and am possibly interpreting things very literally.

My mum is recovering from breast cancer at the moment, I can't ask her.

I'd just love someone to answer. I don't sleep well and have been awake all night for weeks so I'll be awake all night with this on my brain. Then probably dialling 300 times to get through to the doctors

Didn't want to read and run.

I'm not a doctor, or medical in any way.

Could it be an ingrown hair? If it's come up suddenly maybe give it a day or two to see if it goes away again.

But if you're worried you could alway get it checked by a doctor. A doctor wouldn't mind taking a look at any suspicious breast changes.

Try not to worry.

I actually don't know how long it's been there but I know it's only just opened since yesterday. I've been quite unwell recently with other chronic pain issues so showers are functional and quick. So it may have been there longer and I've not noticed.

It's just all a bit close to home with Mum. I don't have the gene that caused her cancer as I recently got tests back.

If I left it, the doctors are a nightmare to get through to on a Monday and I don't know that I would deal so well with the not knowing.

I'm not sure if it could be an ingrown hair. I'm gonna go look at it again.

You're such a gem for replying, thank you so much. 💜 My mum is an over worrier and still has health problems so I definitely won't mention to her at this stage.

Could just be an actual spot. I get spots under my boobs occasionally - especially in warmer weather. Showering every day doesn't seem to prevent them. Sorry to hear about your mum - hope she's doing ok

Yeah it totally could be. I'm going in circles trying to find out what's "concerning". I just looked and don't think it's an ingrown hair. It's quite painful to touch, and most descriptors online say "non painful".

It's incredibly hard to rationalise. It's a bit bruised round it but I think that may have been from me poking earlier. Just going to leave it alone now and ring the doctors in the morning.

Thanks for your reply. ❤️ Mum is still recovering, thanks.

Ok so it's an infected cyst. Said it looks quite angry so Ive been given flucloxacillin for a week, 4x a day. I already take Lymecycline so I'll stop that and start these. She was very lovely and said I was right to go in especially with my family history of breast cancer. She said to monitor it didn't get bigger and if I'm left with lump after the antibiotics, to go back. She also took a swab so I feel very placated and listened to.I'm on the bus home and haven't slept a wink.

Thanks to everyone who commented. If anyone out there has something suspicious like a lump, please don't hesitate. Go and get seen. I'm gonna book my next mammogram in as its been nearly a year.
