For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I think Kent is quite good for fossils, isn't it? All that chalk & clay.

IRC, good places include:

Folkestone - ammonites and shells, crinoids, Belemites etc

Herne Bay - Famous fossil beds. Go at low tide for shark and fish fossils.

Isle of Sheppey - I think there are lots of different types of fossils found here, inculding plants

Gosh, actually lost thread!
Have skimmed a bit recently but not posted.

Boco - must talk homeopathy v. briefly with you sometime.

LL, ds1 (8) really struggled with pedals. He just about got to grips with his bike (with stabilisers) when he was 4 and then suddenly went off the idea and hasn't touched a bike since. He has recently (yesterday) mentioned wanting to ride a bike.

Avi, huge symathy re teeth. I Don't Do dentists these days

TooTicky · 23/02/2008 23:22

We have found fossils at Watchet (west Somerset). And there is a steam railway.

UnderRated · 23/02/2008 23:59

Oh, I've always secretly wanted to join a commune.

Watchet is great, isn't it? I counted the snails there for A level Biology.

I don't do dentists either

Morning all
I have SLEPT oh joy
day 3 of ds not wearing a nappy at night - first night he got up at 3 to do a wee then spent the next 2 hours very upset about not being able to get back to sleep. I ended up squeezed in with him in his little cosy bed
second night woke up at 5 am to do a wee, and never quite got back to sleep again
last night he had a bad dream at 3 am, got up and had a wee, went back to bed then felt sad about the bad dream (small dog biting his knee) and called me. However after brief cuddle he went back to sleep and we all slept until TWENTY PAST SEVEN oh the joy of it
so how come I have HUGE wrinkles and bags under my eyes, ah well

it is my holiday, hoorah! am going to meet MrsC and Tatties for tea then spend till Monday night in London shopping, hotelling, sleeping, eating nice things. BY MYSELF. I am very happy.

Sorrow to everyone about teeth, bikes, tiredness, teeth and everything.

I have very manfully NOT been thinking about Mr Avi in his suit. Not at all.

Morning old fruits (it's morning here!)

Dinner went well last night - particularly the roasted peppers - just cut into four, de-seed, drizzle with olive oil and roast for 30 minutes.

And the mushrooms, cooked in a pan with finely chopped onion, garlic and tomato, seasoning, white wine and olive oil and lashings of chopped fresh parsley. Both the above served cold.

Also managed to cook local kale into something tender - cut out tough stalks and finely chopped then in microwave dish with a splash of water, lid on, 5 mins on high, rest, another 5 mins on high, drain off water, add juice of half a lemon and a slosh of olive oil and some marigold, mix in and give 3 more minutes on high.

hunkermunker · 24/02/2008 14:46

My lunch was gorgeous - roasted peppers, onions and tomatoes (with garlic, basil and olive oil - so easy) - with couscous.

Have carrot and houmous to have in a bit.

Enjoy London, Franny - mind the wolves!

Boco · 24/02/2008 16:28

Have eaten very unhealthy fried breakfast. But needed it to counter the hangover. The Ball was very funny and I had an unexpectedly good time. Inlaws waited up for me until 2am! Was hard making sensible conversation, felt about 16. Feel quite shocking today and desperate for some sleep.

Hope the posh tea people are having fun!

UnderRated · 24/02/2008 17:40

Great news about DS and sleeping, Franny.

Hope you all have a wonderful afternoon scoffing cake. Have some for me. I want to know all about it when you get back.

So glad the dinner party went well, Anorak. Were your guests lovely?

Boco, I was wondering how the ball was

FrayedKnot · 24/02/2008 18:35

Hello

Have just eaten a huge plateful of scotch pancakes with blueberries and yoghurt. We had huge amounts of tapas at lunch.

I am looking down at a huge overhang that wasn;t there earlier

I have just won a bike for DS on E-bay for a bargainous price! Hooray!

Hope carb addicts are having fun!

Boco, want to know more about Ball. Did you swoon at lots of black tie clad men? I hope so

ahundredtimes · 24/02/2008 19:46

Yes, I want to know more about the ball, and also how Lully got on in the park.

We went to friends for lunch. Was nice. Am tired now.

Boco · 24/02/2008 20:06

The ball was quite surreal really. Everyone from The Village seemed to be there - all the old gentry folk, the mayor, the butcher, all the farmers, all the firemen, all the teacher adn doctors and the baker and the retired WI ladies with their husbands, and lots of the parents. But in posh evening wear - all the ladies in black, so like a strange dream. The place looked amazing, was done really well, food was nice - we were luckily on a table with nice people we know - or know of - who were all good fun. There was an auction done by the vicar who for some reason made lots of puns about male genitalia which was fairly unpleasant and people laughed politely and did raised eyebrows.

Lots of drunkenness and bad dancing and exchanging of gossip and staring at each other and nudging etc. Head gave me a strained smile at one point. Friend got very drunk and stole some helium balloons and then on the coach home she inhaled them all and sang Jim'll fix it theme tune. She also ranted about the felting teacher treating her like a child, but while breathing helium, and I laughed so hard I was weeping - the retired pharmacist and his wife tried to intervene - people in the seats all around kept asking her if she was ok adn being concerned at her helium consumption and she was happily singing away in her mousey squeaky voice. WAs very childishly funny and I wheezed home in my heels through the mud to waiting inlaws.

Bbbee · 24/02/2008 20:13

OMG boco that sounds brilliant - your ball with the vicar and the butcher - if it wasn't for the helium and the coach you could be in a fucking hardy novel - but then you would be sad and we wouldn't want that - um, a different happy hardy novel then.

I love it all - it is dreamy and surreal and wonderful.

Am happy.

More details on food, drink and dancing please.

Bbbee · 24/02/2008 20:14

oh and did you wear the same dresses?

Boco · 24/02/2008 20:49

Yes, we wore the same dresses - but i dont think may people noticed. But had up done hair too. But she has very red hair, so completely different. Place lit with thousands of fairy lights and candles so too dark to see details of dress [denial] Spotted a couple of others like ours too. common dress obv.

There was champagne and canapes and little waiter boys. Then there was pate for starter, then roast pork that each table had to carve themselves wearing an apron and a hat. There was the auction and raffle and all that stuff, vicar said grace and smut. Then lots of puddings and sweets and coffee and lots of wine - and then we drank gin and mistook people in tuxedos for waiters frequently. The music was good, a band, lots of big farmer men dancing enthusiastically on the spot. There was a lady on our table who I don't know and I LOVED her face - it was such a lovely face - kind of like a female Hugh Laurie but pointier, very short hair and about 45 with half moon specs and a wonky smile and I decided I had a slight crush on her so I daren't talk to her once I'd drank too much in case I told her what a marvelous face she has and what a good wonky smile and satisfyingly angled chin. Don't you just love pointy chins. Not in a sexual way you understand. Actually Bee, I love your chin too. Anyway, she was one of the concerned ones on the coach who must think we're lunatics, shrieking 'you can treat me like a child, but you cannot make me felt' in a helium voice, while I wept mascara.

FrayedKnot · 24/02/2008 20:53

ROFL at helium ballons and concerned villagers

YOu know they will all be nodding and nudging and winking when you go into local shop etc now

lullabyloo · 24/02/2008 22:00

100x ..you are a darling & a genius
I have a happy little chap

It was a wonderfully sunny day & after an hour or so of the 100x method.....by jove he actually got it!
He was pedalling like the clappers

I love you very much

Bbbee · 24/02/2008 22:13

oh boco I love it - I so love it to bits - I want to come next year - I love the farmers dancing on the spot - how can there be champagne and ruggedness all wrapped up in such a fairy lit wonder of a fantasy!

The felt line is wonderful too - your friend sounds good I like her - you have to go round to her house more with a special cake you have made with walnuts and do that thing where you have a wee whiskey with it and take the piss out of things. I like her.

ahundredtimes · 24/02/2008 22:22

I love the ball too. I love everything. But where did you get the coach back to? For some reason I thought this took place in the grounds of the vicarage or Lady Bobbin's estate? Your description made me LOL.

Lully. I actually punched the air when I read your post. Like an American ball player I was. I'm so pleased it worked.

ahundredtimes · 24/02/2008 22:34

I have decided I am going to stay up for the Oscars Red Carpet show. I am a slut for silly dresses. I'm not sure why I'm going to do it even.

Bbbee · 24/02/2008 23:38

ooooh how exciting - is anyone else staying up? have you started a thread?

I can;t partake with enthusiam as i don;t get the whole frock thing. When i dress up big time i look like aunt sally.
