Sudden breast lump

I posted this in Women's Health but this board seems busier so thought I'd re-post here.

I am going to call the GP about this tomorrow, but wanted to know if anyone had experienced anything similar. I have found a large lump in my breast above the nipple. It is pretty huge (an inch across maybe) and I check my breasts regularly so I am as sure as I can be that it wasn't there a fortnight ago. It feels firm, smooth, regular oval/round and mobile, and it is painless. I think I am probably starting perimenopause so I am wondering if it's related and I have just finished my period. I do have lumpy breasts and have had cysts in the past but never anything this big.

By "mobile" so you mean it moves with the breast, or does it feel like it isn't especially tethered to the breast itself or the skin? The latter is a good sign.

Smooth is also a good sign.

Nothing we can say here, of course, will give you an answer, and you're absolutely right to go straight in. The doctor should refer you (even if he seems reluctant, do insist - GPs do miss worrisome lumps sometimes, and I've seen that first hand).

I saw breast consultant and he did an examination etc and wasn’t worried about anything and couldn’t find anything but for peace of mind he has ordered me an ultrasound scan so should be getting a date for that in the next couple of weeks he said! I just want it over and done with now so I know for sure x

Oh that's good news. They know what they're looking for and an ultrasound will hopefully put your mind at rest. Keep us updated!

@TheFormidableMrsC thank you! Yes I’m still anxious but its definitely positive that he couldn’t find a lump nor was concerned at appearance of breasts and feel of them etc but the US is the main thing I wanted just to clear my mind etc so hopefully all fingers crossed it’ll be a good result xx
