Broke toe- to bother with X-ray?

I think I broke my toe today. It is currently strapped up and going all shades of green/purple/black. The lovely nurse at the minor injuries booked me an X-ray which I cannot do til Thursday. Not sure whether to bother or not?

If it's your big toe then yes, otherwise no. Standard treatment is to strap it to the toe next to it.

There's not enough clinical information in your post for anyone to advise you. May be best to see if you can find out from the nurse who saw you what they why they thought the xray was important.

OrlandointheWilderness · 14/05/2023 09:33

How did you break it? If it was a crush injury they always x ray as it can cause other problems.

SpamIAm · 14/05/2023 09:37

A professional has already advised that you have an xray, so yea I would bother.

plasticpens · 14/05/2023 09:37

I would assume if the medical professional you saw has booked an X-ray that there is cause to believe you need it.

If it was standard treatment then why would the nurse bother with booking an x-ray!

Yes OP, definitely go.

** sorry about exclamation point, was meant to be a question mark 🙄😂

Well if you can't be arsed to go afte seeking medical advice, at least cancel the appointment before so they have chance to re book. He lose a ridiculous of time to no show DNA's with patients can't be arsed to show up for their X-rays.

Bobbybobbins · 14/05/2023 20:54

Thanks everyone. The nurse thought that I may have broken the joint rather than the toe itself which is why he recommended an X-ray. I will most likely go, as you have said, if he recommended it, it is worthwhile. If I didn't go I would definitely cancel.

You should definitely get it x-rayed if there's any suspicion of the joint being broken , it can lead to serious issues down the line.
