Doctor requested face-to-face appointment but NHS app says test result is normal?

My GP receptionist has called to ask me to come in for a face to face appointment with my GP (after a previous phone call with them and stool samples given in about 2 weeks ago).

I had only requested the results of my stool sample via the NHS app. NHS app shows ‘negative for XYZ’ ‘normal’ for everything else. So, surely everything is fine.

BUT why would the GP need to see me face to face if test results were normal?

I have on-off loose stools, some stomach aches. But i assumed IBS. Worse with anxiety/stress. Healthy diet, no alcohol, very active.

I’m not worried as such, but just curious to know why i would be asked to come in? The receptionist said ‘maybe to feel your abdomen’ …???

I’m grateful to be seen but… why?

You may have had a first round of tests to identify any issues and as they are normal there may be further tests they want to run? They may want to take bloods or urine for example or do a physical exam?

Because you have symptoms which haven't been explained by the blood test results.

This sounds like a good thing, as they aren’t just leaving you to fight for next steps yourself.

I had a problem where various tests came back normal and I was just discharged with no follow-up. I had to really push for a referral and it took a lot of emotional energy to get to the right diagnosis and care. So I think it’s fantastic that your GP is following up with you.

Did they examine you at all before ordering the stool samples?

If not, they may want to give your stomach a prod, look at you to see if you look unwell, possibly a brief examination of your rectum (honestly not as bad as it sounds).
