Stung or bitten?

In the garden at about 4pm, I was pulling up nettles in new gardening gloves without any issue. Put my hand in for more and felt intense pain, like the worst ever nettle sting. Ignored it and continued. My finger is still tingling all the way up and down and now have some tingling in my other fingers, arm, lower leg and foot on that side. I do have two tiny red marks on the inside of my finger. It didn't come up like a nettle sting. My finger is swollen, pink and very sore to touch on the side where it was hurt. (The pain made me jump when ds2 nudged it this evening.) I take a daily antihistamine anyway. Not sure if I just found a very vicious nettle or a disgruntled spider. I guessing I don't need to do anything? (I've also got Covid so maybe my body is working overtime?)

From recent personal experience, those nettle bastards can get you through thick gardening gloves. It hurts a lot more than you'd expect and the pain can spread around your body.

What happened to you sounds very unpleasant though.

Keep an eye on your finger, take the antihistamines and painkillers and get checked out if it doesn't settle down in a day or two.

I sympathise about the covid btw - I had it recently despite avoiding it for three years.

Maybe give 111 a ring? Covid can do strange things to the body like the clots etc, and affects the histamine response so as you’re having a body w died reaction maybe worth a call?

Two holes sound like a spider or a snake. (I am an Aussie, so that’s where our minds go.) Could you have any grass snakes or adders in your garden? Are you feeling nauseous? Do you have a temperature? Is there a poisons information line you can call to find out?

Thank you for replying. I fell asleep. My hand and arm were still a bit tingly yesterday, but otherwise just the usual Covid symptoms. I checked what a snake bite would look like and the marks were smaller so I think either nettle or spider. I assumed nettle, but it seemed strange as I had been pulling handfuls of nettles out without an issue and then suddenly had the really nasty sting. Either way, all good now.
