What is this on my hand?

For all of my adult life, maybe even as a child, I had a tiny bump on my hand. Never thought much of it, never really noticed it. Last year I had my second baby and throughout the pregnancy it seemed to grow, whether its linked to the pregnancy or not I don't know, I thought maybe hormones could have affected something in the same way they can pigmentation.

It's still only a small bump but much more noticeable. Not painful in any way unless I catch it. I've added a pic of it as it is now.

Any idea what it could be?
It's a real fight to get a Dr's appointment but I will try, although I'm not sure if I'll be wasting their time, it's seems like such a small thing.

Mine is also from surgery. Have you had an op?

Rainbow1612 · 07/05/2023 11:33

No, other than 2 csections I've not had surgery. I didn't have an IV in that hand.

Looks like a keloid scar. Basically an injury which has formed a bump of scar tissue. Pregnancy can trigger the growth of keloids which have been stable for years and encourage them to grow again. Nothing to worry about but please still check with your GP.

Could it be a dermatofibroma?

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 07/05/2023 16:05

Sorry a less positive suggestion to get it checked. My basal cell carcinoma looked just like a pick raised scar. On the positive side removal was quick and easy and doesn't require chemo etc unlike other types of cancer. Get it checked just in case

Rainbow1612 · 07/05/2023 20:31

Thank you all, I will get it checked!

It looks like a mole to me and they often get bigger in pregnancy. In my experience fair- or red-haired people tend to have more pink/colourless moles and darker haired people tend to have more brown ones. Get it checked for your peace of mind, but I'd be very surprised if it doesn't turn out to be a mole.

I'm pale with very dark hair and have lots of dark moles, none that look like this so it seems unlikely but it's good to know that it could be.
