Loads of ulcers suddenly

I've suddenly started getting lots of ulcers on my tongue. The last maybe 2-3 weeks. Each time one goes another appears or I have several at once. They are really uncomfortable and annoying. Anyone ever had this or know what it could be caused by?

Can be a symptom of coeliac disease.

Abouttime · 06/05/2023 20:27

B12 deficiency

Trauma, eating crisps, crusty bread, chewing tongue, vitamin deficiency, etc

overitunderit · 06/05/2023 20:32

It's definitely not something I've eaten because they keep dying down then coming back again. Like today I thought they had gone and three new ones have just appeared.

It's also definitely not coeliac disease as I don't have any other symptoms of that (say here with a big bowl of pasta)

I've also read b12 deficiency so I've started taking a supplement but from what I've read it it's that it can actually be quite serious

Do not take b12 supplements just yet, they will distort b12 blood test results. Go get a b12, folic and celiac test in a few weeks time when the tablet b12 is out of your system. You may need b12 injections?

Have you other symptoms?

Oh that's interesting thank you. No symptoms that I can think of really. I've had a stressful few weeks as we have just bought a new business so I wondered if it could be that although I've never had them as a result of stress before.

could be just run down, buying a business sounds stressful!

Felicity42 · 07/05/2023 00:26

Stress definitely. My son gets mouth ulcers at exam time.

mildlydispeptic · 07/05/2023 00:44

Stress, being run down. Any alcohol perhaps? I find red wine gives me ulcers.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 07/05/2023 01:41

Mouth ulcers can be related to sodium lauryl sulphate in toothpaste as well as stress. I would also check your diet and see if ulcers develop after you eat a particular food. I get mouth ulcers after citrus food, tomatoes and fermented food such as sourdough bread and balsamic vinegar

coxesorangepippin · 07/05/2023 02:15

Could be hand foot and mouth

Are you in contact with children?

Denise82 · 07/05/2023 02:46

Are you suddenly using a different toothpaste or mouthwash? Even if its the same brand but is for a different target area, eg, whitening or sensitive teeth etc. it could have Sodium lauryl sulfate in or a higher level of it in.
This is what mainly triggered my constant mouth ulcers I suffered with for years until I found some SLS free toothpastes. Now like another poster has said I only get a mouth ulcers if I've had something particularly acidic such as citrus fruits.
Hope they get better op, mouth ulcers are so painful x

I get them when my diabetes isn't well controlled, I didn't know they were a symptom before my diagnosis.

CallItLoneliness · 07/05/2023 04:50

They can also be a symptom of crohn's disease. I think a full checkup with your doc is in order, OP
