Mammogram results.

GP sent me for mammogram on the 2 week pathway. Had the appointment just over 2 weeks ago but it was just for the scan (no follow up on the day). The letter said another appointment would be arranged within 6 weeks for a clinic appointment but I've not heard anything yet.

My mum had one recently at the same hospital and had her breast clinic appointment the same day. I think they told her then as well about her results.

Why would I have to wait 6 weeks to get mine?

It's unusual to do it that way. Normally the breast clinic is a one stop shop where they have a radiologist who looks at the mammogram and abreast consultant who examines you.
I would ring the breast clinic even though you weren't seen there and ask what happens next and when you'll get the results. IME no news is good news.

I recently had to wait 4 weeks for results and another 10 days for a further screening as the result came back as abnormal (luckily turned out to be ok, just a dense area). Good luck I hope your results come earlier than 6 weeks.

Thankyou. I hope they do too. Trying not to stress out this time as recently had to go on 2 weeks pathway for something else which was pretty stressful.
I'm glad yours turned out ok. :)

Oh that's so stressful for you having the 2 week pathway twice. Try not to worry even if it comes back unclear. I was at the further screening for 4 hours so met a lot of women and lots seemed to be like me and had a really dense area that they needed to look at carefully but was actually once they had further mammograms and ultrasound scans.

LaughingLemur · 06/05/2023 20:33

Sorry that should say was actually clear once they had more tests.

AbigHoleinmybucket · 06/05/2023 20:36

Thank you. It does seem like a long time to wait when others get results the same day. :(
I think I actually asked on mumsnet before that appointment to see how long I'd be there and most said a couple of hours as I'd go to the clinic after like my mum did. Fingers crossed. x

They've called me today to make an appointment next week to get my results.

Should I be worried?
Can't they just send them or tell me on the phone?

They probably won't tell you anything on the phone unfortunately. I had a dense mass they wanted to investigate but they wouldn't tell me that until my appointment.
Fingers crossed for your appointment and I really hope everything is ok. At least you don't have to wait as long as you feared. Try to distract yourself and keep busy so that you don't have time to worry. I did lots of little jobs that I'd been putting off for months to take my mind off it. Good luck.

Thanks laughing. Might see if gp has then yet. X

Well the surgery said they usually write to you in 2-3 weeks and they've not written to me.
It's an outpatient appointment rather than at the breast clinic?

That's strange that it's not at the breast clinic as that's where they have the 3D mammograms, ultrasound scans and biopsies to do further screening. Maybe there's a possibility that's a good sign but I really don't know. It's so stressful isn't it? It would be so much better if they gave out more information. Thinking of you and hope time goes quickly to your appointment.

Thank you very much. Had the confirmation by text and it's a general surgery appointment. Have a great day Lemur. I'll try not to worry until then. 🌷
