Low ferritin now high ferritin ?!

So during my pregnancy I developed low ferritin ( 6 ) had 2 iron transfusions . My baby is now six months and having issues with my stomach /joint pain . Had bloods all fine except for my ferritin was 360 in January . Doctor wasn’t concerned . Bloods just been done again and they are 260 - doctor put a note on saying improving result so clearly not concerned but I am .
Could the iron transfusions of caused a build up of iron ?! Seems weird to go from exceptionally low to super high ???

Different areas and labs have different ranges. Our lab is normal up to a reading of 300 so 260 would be an improvement on 360 and wouldn’t be concerning at all.
You need to see what your labs reference range actually is, it might be a normal reading. I hope the stomach & joint pain ease soon for you.
I’d love to be able to get anywhere near triple figures tbh, I feel like death most of the time at 16.

@IAmNotOkay it’s up to 150 on mine . Mines normally the same which makes me think it is from the iron transfusions ?

Iron infusions do make iron go high for a while after. Obviously you GP is monitoring it and will tell you if they are concerned.

@NeedCoffeeNowPlease thanks for reply . Would it affect results six months later ? I had 2 in quick confession at back end of pregnancy

Could also be virus related? Have you had any virus symptoms recently perhaps?

Arrangingmyknits · 06/05/2023 19:55

Inflammation causes ferritin to rise. It’s not an over dose of iron.

Lkakpk · 06/05/2023 19:56

@AlphabetSue yes I’ve had some issues with my stomach and joint pain since my little girl hence the bloods but everything else mostly normal wbc and crp etc

I'm not an expert in any of this but I know my doctor did tests a few months later to see how fast the iron levels were falling (or not). That's relevant information for them. Your doctor doesn't seem concerned, so I wouldn't worry too much and just ask them at your next appointment.
