Kindney/UT Infection

I have a suspected UTI/Kidney infection.

Frequent urination, pain and discomfort in groin and bladder area, flank pain, feel tired and sometimes nauseous.

Rang 111 on bank holiday Monday, I was given an appointment at an out of hours clinic, did a urine sample which they sent off to the lab, and was given 500mg cefalexin antibiotics.

Symptoms havnt improved at all, it’s the flank pain in my lower back that’s the worst. Would it be worth contacting my GP or just hoping that the antibiotics take a little more time to kick in.

Go abroad on Wednesday too, so feeling pretty rubbish if I’m going to be ill on holiday.

You should be feeling some improvement at this stage. It is possible that the bacteria may be resistant to the antibiotics prescribed. Ask your GP to check the result from the sample sent to the lab as this will indicate which antibiotics are sensitive to the bacteria and which are not.

I get a lot of utcs and those antibiotics never work so they don't even prescribe them anymore for me its on my records they don'twork. Go back or you will be miserable on holiday

Definitely go back to your GP! Kidney infections can be very nasty if you can’t get on top of them. I was in hospital for a few nights recently with one. Can’t be too careful!
