I was noshitsherlock - changed name. Actually I used to drink cheap vodka or fizzy wine and never remember the next day. I don't drink cheap crap anymore and it doesn't happen. I would probably have about 7 or 8 vodka so yes its above normal but not excessive.

SecretBoozeWhore · 16/02/2008 22:09

It's not that I crave more, or can't stop, it's just never before occurred to me that I should. I say that in all seriousness.

Maybe I do need to stop.

What do you think then guys? Do I need to stop?

Just also want to add are you worrying about anything or upset about anything because I used to have a 1/4 bottle of vodka and not remember anything.

You need to slow it down. Drink water or a soft drink between every one or two alcoholic drinks.

foxinsocks · 16/02/2008 22:14

I would stop for a bit and see how you feel. You might find you quite like yourself sober.

ornamentalhaggis · 16/02/2008 22:16

I would say consciously try to stop or slow down after one and see how you feel. Blackouts are dangerous, not least because of the situations you can get yourself into. Been there myself.

SecretBoozeWhore · 16/02/2008 22:17

I am usually sober. 98 percent of the time I am sobor - I can go to a pub and sit and drink coke - and still like myself.

Do you know, I don't even know why I drink so fast?

It sneaks up on me, it really does, and it's only the next day I realise how awful i was, then I talk to other people I was out with and I'm shocked at my own behavior.

I do think this is the final nail in the coffin for me and alcohol. It's fun while it lasts be I can't deal with feeling like this - it's shit!

I mean when you are out. Well it's good that you can stop isn't it? You've still got that choice.

It is very easy to drink fast. Especially in a group situation where rounds keep appearing. But if it's making you feel this crap, then it's probably time to take charge of the situation and it seems like you're starting to think about doing that which is great.

yetanothernamechanger · 16/02/2008 22:21

I think you know whether you need to stop or even want to stop.
It's usually a nagging voice in the back of your mind, that you've ignored for a bit-I know this voice!
I wish you well though and I think you've show courage by posting, well done you!

SecretBoozeWhore · 16/02/2008 22:24

I need to learn to drive. My natural laziness would prevent me from walking to the pub - I would take the car, and be designated driver.

I don't have any social anxiety, I'm quite gregarious, but I seem to have got into the habit of getting the drinks down my neck as quickly as possibly. I think I do it to blow off the stress of the past few weeks - but now it's just causing stress.

Thanks all, for your lack of judgement and helpfulness. I need t think carefully next time I go out. I can slow down if I think about it, but I am not going out for the next month anyway because I have the kids.

SBW, Just read your post briefly. I've had an experience like this when I drank Vodka. It really does not agree with me and turns me into a person I do not recognise. I've woken up the next day and not remembered a single thing and have been really shocked when friends / DH told me about my behaviour.

Are you only like this when you drink vodka? That is the only drink that makes me like that?

ladette · 16/02/2008 23:01

no answers, am very like you myself. Just wanted to say well done for posting and I'm sure you'll get the support you need.

Highlander · 17/02/2008 09:50

does your friend have any idea how much you drink when out?

Is it too much booze or a very low threshold for it? (I'm a disgrace after a paltry 3 units)

ZippiBabes · 17/02/2008 10:00

if you drink fast you shouldnt drink spirits it is simply because you drink faster than the alcohol is absorbed so you go from sober for an hour or two to rat arsed

i can drink and appear ok and not remember anything next day from a certain point in the evening it's quite common

other things which make a difference are hormone levels ie your menstrual cycle i find it is more likely you will get ratted before a period and particularly have this need to get drunk and the sudden change from ok to pissed

also nerves and stress possibly about the social situation makes a difference

if i was you i would never drink spirits

and of course the advice to pace yourself is sound

also wwhether you have eaten enough is a major major part

and how early in the evening you start

try not having a drink until after 9 when you go out and definitely not priming yourself up before you leave home

find someone in your group who drinks less and moderate yourself with their drinking avoid going to the bar when no one else needs a drink

remind yourself that you are going to drink less when you go out as it is easy to forget and accidentally get pissed

ZippiBabes · 17/02/2008 10:01

and dont drink fizzy drinks with alcohol as these affect absorption and speed it up
