Throat clearing

Has anyone else had this go on for a while. Can’t recall having a cold but for the past few months I feel I’m regularly needing to clear my throat. It’s worse in the mornings when I feel like there is mucous in my throat.

Are you on any blood pressure medication?

Are you wheezing at all during the night?

My child has it often
Never did find out why

I have this - it’s an un-lovely combination of acid reflux and post nasal drip. I am on a steroid nasal spray and anti-histamine, plus Omeprazole. At one point I had convinced myself I had lung cancer because of a daily mucus-y cough. The GP was kind but bemused.

Oh just re pp posts, I have never had any breathlessness or other breathing problems - that is a different ballgame.

It sounds like it could be caused by laryngopharyngeal reflux, also known as "silent reflux" because it doesn't cause the pain or heartburn that's usually associated with reflux.

Some things to try:
Elevate your upper body when sleeping, either by using lots of pillows or by raising the head end of the bed on risers.
Avoid lying down or bending forward within 2 hours after eating.
Take Gaviscon at bedtime.
Try to resist clearing your throat if possible, as it can irritate the vocal chords.
