Doctors or A&e - calf pain

Evening everyone.
Not sure whether it's relevant but I tested positive for covid on 18th March. I also have factor v leiden.
So for the last 2 weeks or so I've been having a dull ache in my right calf. It didn't bother me at first, but it's gradually getting more and more uncomfortable. I have no redness no swelling, it doesn't feel hot to touch but It feels tight to me. The aching today is worse than yesterday and I can't ignore it anymore, it's uncomfortable to walk on. I keep getting a tingly/numb feeling in that leg, and also pins and needles in that foot.
I don't know whether I should wait til Monday to try and get seen by a doctor or just go to a&e and ask about having a d dimer done. I hate wasting anyones time but worried that it could also be a dvt.

I would call 111

Katrinawaves · 22/04/2023 21:23

I have Factor V Leiden and I’d go to A and E about this. It was in the guidance I was given when I was diagnosed.

Shouldbedoing · 22/04/2023 21:24

Get that checked.
You won't relax till you do, anyway

Bluebells1970 · 22/04/2023 21:25

DD had a blood clot with Covid, went to A & E and she was pushed through fairly quickly. 3 months of blood thinners and all was well.

I'd phone 111.

Coffeellama · 22/04/2023 21:26

Call 111, I don’t no what your mentioned conditions are but if you are unsure between doctor and a&e I think 111 is always the best bet.

Tarantullah · 22/04/2023 21:27

I'd say 111 but as you have FVL I'd probably head to A&E.

ToHellBackAndBeyond · 22/04/2023 21:28

We had reason to use 111 recently. We used the online system. Didn't expect much from it but received a telephone call from an out of hours gp within forty minutes and then were pushed through to the a and e as an urgent referral that same night.
In your shoes I'd either go straight up to a and e or use the 111 to get a referral. Good luck.

With a clotting disorder I would A&E this one

Namchange101 · 22/04/2023 21:59

I had this after a Covid jab. I phoned 111 and they told me to go to hospital. Turned out to be nothing (and one of the doctors at a follow up appt was really rather rude and dismissive about it all) but I was checked over really thoroughly.

tiredpuppymum · 22/04/2023 21:59

No point calling 111 I'd be straight to ED.

Beseen22 · 22/04/2023 22:12

Nhs inform is suggesting 111 for a ?DVT. Is the area red or swollen?

If you have any chest pain or shortness of breath along with your swollen leg head to ED promptly.

ChrisPPancake · 23/04/2023 11:44

111 can book you an appointment at urgent care (or indeed advise you to go to A&E).

23calfache · 23/04/2023 20:22

Thanks everyone.
I managed to see an out of ours doctor pretty quickly after using the 111 service. So they haven't said I need a d dimer but prescribed rivaroxaban 15mg twice a day just incase it is a clot, he did say the calf which hurts is bigger than the other. But I'm on the rivaroxaban until I can get a scan on my leg which should be sometime this week i hope..

Glad you were seen, and good luck with your scan.
Take care now.

What was your scan result, @23calfache? Is your leg all better?

inigomontoyahwillcox · 30/10/2023 22:16

Glad you're being treated, factor v leiden plus recent Covid plus calf pain - absolutely needs to be taken seriously for potential DVTs.
