So a bit of background - I’m 33 female and normal weight . Always had ibs which tends to flair up really badly for a few months ( daily dirrehea stomach bug type cramps and gurgles ) then settles but always had a dodgy very up and down digestive system .

After my oldest dd 5 years ago I started to have blood when passing stools . Went to gp who done cal protectin test and said I had inflammation. Negative celiac test . Referred to gastro who performed both a flexi sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy- only discovery was internal and external piles and a diagnosis of mild gastritis and ibs .

Everything seemed to settle , still had the usual bad spells but wasn’t concerned as bowel cancer had been ruled out as had colitis .
Anyway , I’ve recently had my second child and bleeding seems to have started again , my worry is , this time the bleeding seems to be less pile obvious and more on top of looser stools .
I went back to gp who examined and confirmed I still have internal pile and external piles and gave me forms for bloods and another inflammation test with a follow up in four weeks to discuss options .
she said it’s reassuring that I’ve had Negative scope 4 years ago and obv my age etc but it concerns her the blood is more mixed rather than a very obvious red toilet water which sits more with piles ( like last time ).
I just don’t want to put myself through another scope ?
My bowels haven’t really changed , still my regular bad spells where it’s like I have a stomach bug with intermittent loose stools bit mucousy , lasts a few weeks then calms and no weight loss aneamia etc .Unsure what to do ?!

Yes, I would! I’ve had a similar experience- stomach issues for a few years. Had a sigmoidoscopy about three years ago which was completely clear, not even any polyps. Didn’t follow it up with the GP to see if they wanted to check for anything else because Covid hit and getting an appointment was a nightmare. But my symptoms have progressively gotten worse the last year or so. Saw my GP again in October, high calprotectin etc. I had another colonoscopy in January which shows I do now have Crohns. I’ve been in and out of hospital ever since in a horrendous flare and wish I’d followed up with my GP sooner before it got to the point where I was really unwell and needing IV steroids and morphine in hospital.

Colonoscopies are not fun but I would definitely get it checked out.

Loads better, thanks! Steroids seem to have calmed things down a lot 🤞
