Severe sinusitis - pain, pus...panic?

Passthegin99 · 21/04/2023 22:33

DP has a severe sinus infection. Started suddenly 48 hours ago. He got antibiotics yesterday around midday and has seen some symptoms improve (he's up and about now as opposed to shivering and crying in bed) but his nose has just got bigger and bigger and redder and redder. It's so swollen fluids are leaking out of his skin and he's in a lot of pain plus acute headaches that come and go. Doc not interested when he called back today - apparently it's normal. It doesn't seem normal! Google is making me fear infection of the brain, sepsis etc. Can anyone reassure me or tell me when I should draw the line and take him to A & E?? 🙏

I've had an operation on my sinuses years ago from severe recurring infections. That wasn't normal for me before the operation. I'd definitely take him.

Take him in OP.

Nose swelling, red and leaking fluid sounds like cellulitis rather than sinusitis, OP, and facial cellulitis can be very serious (I'm a GP). I'd definitely head to A&E.

A&E now please

Keep taking pictures so that you can track it

I have had chronic issues with sinuses & abscess's in my gum & all being linked to each other, had to have sinus op & teeth out so pretty grim.
I have never experienced anything like you describe though & wld advise urgent medical assistance.

I do hope he is ok, OP.

Teddypops · 22/04/2023 04:42

Any news OP?

Tessisme · 22/04/2023 07:43

Oh my goodness, how worrying for you both. DP has chronic sinus problems that periodically cause him terrible pain, so I know how bad it can be.

Hope he's okFlowers

Lindy2 · 22/04/2023 09:22

I once had terrible sinusitis with sweating and shaking. Once I started antibiotics though it improved very quickly with a huge amount of green gunk coming out of my nose. I could feel the pressure release everytime I blew my nose.

Your DH's situation doesn't sound right at all. I'm glad he's gone to A&E. I hope he is OK and home again soon.

Passthegin99 · 22/04/2023 09:47

So he has been admitted and was given morphine last night. They don't know what it is but current thinking is lupus. Waiting on lots of test results:/
