Post menopausal bleeding

Does any one have any experience of the older women in their lives having had post menopausal bleeding? My Mum has just had some and has been referred to a Gynaecologist. I'd like to be able to reassure her (and myself) that it is quite common and am really wishing I hadn't googled it.

I'd be grateful to hear any experiences.
Thanks

J

Hi

I work in an ultrasound department and this happens extremely commonly and is usually absolutely nothing to worry about. If it does happen though, the GP is obliged to make a gynaecology referral under government guidelines. In my experience the patient is usually offered an ultrasound scan (sometimes on the day of the appointment) and this is often all that is needed. Sometimes an examination similar to a smear might also be performed.

As I said it is very common, so I hope this reassures you and your mum a bit.

Thanks so much Elizabethsmum - that has made us both feel much better - thanks for taking the time to post
