Kidney failure in newborn

Help! Does anyone have any info re. the above. My SIL has just had a baby girl who has no function in her left kidney and only 1% in the right. She will need dialysis or a transplant, but she is only 3 days old and they cannot transplant until she is at least one year old. The baby is has also been on a ventilator as her lungs were immature, although they do seem to be improving. Does anyone have any experience of this? Just wondering if anyone knows of newborns on dialysis and how successful it is. Any info would be appreciated as obviously worried for SIL, baby and daddy. Thanks.

Ask on the special needs section. I did know someone who's newborn had no kidney function and dialysis and transplants were talked about. But after about 2 weeks one of her kidneys started to work. That was a lack of oxygen that caused all organs to shut down so I don't know if it would be the same.

no experience, but wanted to send my good wishes for your ILs and their wee baby.

Thanks for your messages, I will ask on the special needs section as you suggest needmorecoffee.
Thanks again.
